    Chicken on duck eggs??

My muscovy girl started laying again this year and sitting in the box in the coop at night (she rarely comes in at night so I took it as a good sign). She is laying an egg a day and I was assuming she was building up her nest. Well, I have a flighty chicken hen (she never really committed to...

Possum Attacked my D'Uccle (wound pictures)

This little lady is about 4 months old and was attacked by a possum last night. I happened upon it when locking up and stopped it without knowing it was happening. She has a puncture wound on the back of her neck and a open hole under her right wing. The neck wound had fresh blood last night...

Losing chicks and not sure why

I have my first two broody hens and they have basically been sitting since Memorial Day weekend. The one had some egg mix ups with other hens coming in and some next switching, all before I got the broodies separate from the others, and she lost all of her original eggs somewhere around the 14...

    First hatch

This girl had been sitting for longer than 21 days, however, we had some nest swapping and hens laying extra eggs under her before I closed off her and another broody so my days could be off. She still has several eggs under her, she barely let's me move her to check. The other girl has one...

    Muscovy eggs??

I got a muscovy trio 3.5 weeks ago and got 1 egg the first day and 1 the second. Both just random in the grass in roughly the same place. We have 3 acres in the country surrounding by farm fields and a pond (which they have been in but don't use daily and sit in a dang tiny bucket lol). I have...

    Broody hen suddenly sharing

My girls are finally going broody and apparently its contagious! Started with one, and she would let the other girls kick her off to lay so her eggs are behind as she kicked some out. The next girl started about 5 days later and wouldn't move a muscle for about 8 days, then yesterday I saw her...

    New Muscovies

I got a trio of Muscovies about 2.5 weeks ago. They have adjusted well (3 acres, pastured and have a pond they have only found once lol). The first two days we had them, we found an egg each day in random spot in the yard, but nothing since. I have also noticed that the drake has never mated my...

    First time with broody hens!

I have had chickens for 3 years now and I have my first broody hens. A Japanese Ohiki bantam who has been sitting for 6 days now and a Columbian Wyandotte who is sitting...and not lol. My Ohiki will had been pushing and accepting eggs for the first 4 days. I had tried marking them, but she would...

    Bantam egg?

I got two young bantams last fall, one will lay brown and one white. This is my first time with bantams. My girls just started laying again after their fall hiatus and I'm trying to figure out if my one bantam is laying. I've been getting one from one of my Easter eggers and one smaller brown...

    Bumblefoot help!

Long story short, my 2.5 year old roo has a bumblefoot on the side of one toe. It's been swollen for a month and a half or so, not heavily so I didn't fully notice it, except until 1.5 weeks ago when the spot formed. I have been soaking with Epsom salts, pulling out the scab and kernel, washing...

    Columbian Wyandotte sex

I bought 4 Columbian Wyandotte pullets a beginning of august when they were around a 8 weeks old. 90% sure one was crowing the other day and that those are some dandy saddle feathers. I'm thinking I have 3 cockerals and a pullet (all white one being the pullet). Thoughts? They are around 4...

New Ladies! What do I have??

I was told there were Wyandottes, Non Bearded Black Polish, and Crevecoeurs, or maybe mixes. I was thinking the white girls were a type of wyandottes but was unsure of the black girl...

    Ground Wasp Nest

We found a ground wasp nest in our yard, not in the coop or run, but our flock free ranges all day. We would normally spray the nest with that black can of hornet spray, but can we do that with the chickens?? Please advise...I'm allergic to bees and we have kiddos so we need them gone!

    Easter Egger/Ancona/"Special Black" mixes???

I have 4 hens and 1 roo that are a "special black" from Sunnyside Hatchery in WI (a Rhode Island Red/Barred Rock mix from what I can tell). I just got 3 EEs and 2 Anconas. So my question is this... What will I get if I hatch eggs from the EEs or the Anconas? Will the EEs retain the colored egg...

    Raccoon kill :(

Sadly, we had our first coon kill yesterday :( We have a scarecrow and motion light and hardware cloth and even traps out, but I knew it was inevitable to happen eventually. We did trap and dispatch the culprit, but of course want to prevent further. My parents recommended a product calld Animal...

    Eggs safe with higher temps??

We went away for a 4 day weekend and temps outside would've been around 80. Will the eggs in the nest when I get back be safe for us to refrigerate and eat with exposure to those high temps for up to 4 days?

    Chickens and "turkey ducks"

I posted in another thread too, but am unsure on placement so I'll post here too. A friend asked me if I would be interested in some "turkey ducks", an apparent cross. Now, she isn't very animal knowledgeable as her hubby does all the animal stuff, so is she talking about muscovy ducks?? If so...

    Chickens and other birds??

A friend asked me if I would be interested in some "turkey ducks", an apparent cross. Now, she isn't very animal knowledgeable as her hubby does all the animal stuff, so is she talking about muscovy ducks?? If so, can I have them and house them with my chickens? I have 5 hens and a rooster and...
