Kind of long, I'm sorry. But I am really frustrated here and wanted to include as much info as possible.
I have been using an IncuView forced air incubator for over a year and haven't had a hatch rate over 50% - most have been much less than that, closer to 20%. I have redundant thermometers...
Holy cow.
I had 10 seven day old chicks this morning acting totally normal. I get home from work and they are still acting normal. I fed them and gave fresh water like normal.
A few hours later I check on them and every single one is dead. All are laid out with their legs sticking out...
I have 3 coturnix in one cage: 2 hens, 1 roo, all from the same hatch. The hens are not laying at all, and I think maybe the roo is stressing the hens too much.
I have other cages with 6 birds in each: 5 hens and 1 roo. These are from different hatches.
I thought it might be good to take...
I'm tossing the idea around of building an outside pen for my Coturnix birds for the summer that connects to their cages in a shed. Will the birds have enough sense to go inside their cages at night? I was thinking of having a plank to a door maybe 12" X 12" that leads inside to their cages.
The short story is that the temp dropped in the incubator to 85.5 deg and humidity dropped to 10%. This could have been for as long as a day and a half. I am 8 days from hatch. Should I just abandon these eggs now and start a new bunch or is it worth it to see what happens in a week? I have...
I have several more rocking and on the verge of hatching. What can be going wrong here?!?
Temp is at 95.5 with good humidity and I haven't opened the bator except to remove the dead ones. I misted the remaining eggs and shut the bator quick.
This is my first hatch and I must be missing...
I have been gathering eggs for my first incubation. I should have 50 eggs in an Incu View on Saturday. The only thing I'm questioning is the temperature of the eggs when I collect them.
The cages are in a shed that sometimes gets down to about 30 degrees F at night - it's usually closer to...
(I wish there was a definitive "Bumblefoot Sticky")
I think a few of my Coturnix Jumbos have the dreaded bumblefoot, but I've never dealt with it before so I'm not sure. Here are a few pics:
Does this look like bumblefoot?

I am a new quail caretaker. I got these birds when...
I started giving my birds crushed oyster shell and they seem to love it. They eat quite a bit of it.
Do you just give it to them free choice all the time or should they be on some sort of schedule, like one bowl every few days or something?
I'm new to this and have a few questions as far as my plans go. I have 17 hens and 3 roos, all Coturnix. All are in the same cage right now. Eggs started to appear about 10 days ago. At this point I'm getting 5-7 eggs a day (they are delicious). Males are obviously trying to mate with...
My first flock of birds (17 females, 3 males) has just started to lay. I got 1 egg each of the last 2 nights.
I've done some searching and I'm getting conflicting info on how warm the birds need to be during the winter for them to continue laying in winter.
I've read "at least 60...
