Morning all,
I'm working on an article about chicken predation and would like to include some experiences of BYC members, as well as photos if you would be willing to share them.
The focus of the article is on furbearing predators, so raptor or domestic predation isn't as relevant. I don't...
In the last week I started giving fermented feed a try. So far, i'm really happy with how the birds are taking to it, and how the process is working.
I do have a question about feeding it though.
How do you strain the water off, or scoop the feed to reduce the water that goes with it?
I've...
Short of plowing through 10,000 replies looking for the answer, I'm curious about those who range their meat birds.
Do you allow them to range with your layers? Alternate range times?
Do they raid the feed for the layer flock?
I don't want to leave them in the tractor exclusively, I'm just...
This week, along with production dropping off the face of the earth, a couple birds that have been using the nest boxes for the last four months decided to start laying on the floor of the coop, under the roost bars.

Thanks!
The last ten days or so, as weather has allowed, I've been working on what I've been calling coop 2.0. I got my first four birds last September, and chicken math soon set in. I currently have 13 birds in the brooder with a coop for four birds. So here we are. I just wanted to share the build...
Good morning all,
Finally had to break down and join because I couldn't find a thread that answered my question.
New to the chicken game. Wanted a few birds just for eggs, and after a week was drawing plans for the new coop and looking to expand the flock...
The wife is super impressed...
Morning all,
First post here, lurking for a while. New to chickens, about a month in, and making plans to expand the flock next spring, which means a new coop.
I see a lot of reference to the 4 sq. ft. rule, and the linear roosting rule, but seems there would be a cubic foot rule...
