Looking to add some ladies to our flock and i'm wondering what the best breeds would be for a flock of 6 or 7. I was thinking about orpington or Barred Rock, I already have 2 Australorps, so i'm not interested in getting any more. What else should I be looking at that I haven't heard about.

All of my chooks today were out in the hot sun, so, as i'm in Australia, I sprayed my chooks with water. Was that the right thing to do, or should I have done something else?

How would I control a rooster so that my girls are not constantly having chicks and being broody? I'm think of getting a roo and want to know the best techniques to have most of my girl laying nutritious eggs, and maybe one or two being broody.

I've got three Australorps. I don't know how old one of them is but I do know that the others that I have are around 5 months old. How much longer do I have with my little beauties.
