This is my first winter with hens. They started laying in the late fall, and haven't let up. I do not give them any more hours of artificial light, yet my brown egg layers lay every day, and my single white layer lays about every other to every three days.

Just curious what the advantage to hatching in an incubator is over buying chicks. Seems like the eggs are more expensive than chicks, including sexed chicks, and the success rate of chicks arriving well seems greater than hatch rates. Again, just curious. I still plan on getting some eggs and...
When you lock up a new flock in a coop to condition them to come back there to roost, is it okay to let them have access to an attached run too or do they need to be locked inside the coop itself? Thanks in advance.
