This little one got hurt bad. Baby just hatched this morning. When i found him i actually thought he was dead, cold and completely limp and half buried in the wood chips. We got him warmed up and put him alone in a plastic tote lined with a towel and added a heat lamp around 93°f. We put a...

Teaching chicks to get back into coop

Any ideas on how to teach 2 week old chicks to get back into the coop? They come out every morning on their own down the plank with the other hens. Their momma hen jumps up into it from the ground and they can't seem to figure out how to walk up the plank to join her. I have been going out at...

Raising chicks with flock in raised coop- need suggestions

My hen hatched 3 chicks Thursday and Friday. They are in with the other hens in a raised coop about 3 feet off the ground. Mom and babies are in a nest box on the floor of the coop. I'm worried about them falling out of the coop. When would it be ok to let them have access to the ramp to go in...

    Chick pix!

My silver penciled plymouth rock went broody so i ordered "show quality" silkie eggs on ebay. Ordered 8 and received 10. Lost 2 eggs in the first week, assuming because of inexperience. 3 of the remaining 8 hatched! I don't know anything about show quality but they sure are friggen cute!!

    Broody hen switched nestbox

She is in the coop with my 5 other hens and up until today they haven't messed with her. They don't bother her while she's in the nest but I think they snuck...

I was looking at the double barrel ones on Amazon and not sure where to start. I have never composted before...

6 mo old hens poor layers or broody?

Hi guys! I have a 6 month old barred rock that layed 2 eggs in late July then nothing until a fairy egg 8/20. Nothing since. Every morning she stands in front of her preferred nest box and sings for a few minutes. Then she climbed in and sits on the fake egg. She rolls it around and gets...

    Should I separate injured pullet?

My dog got in with my 5-6 week old chickens yesterday and killed two of my 6. 2 were found safe right away and locked back up in their house but the other 2 ran away. They came back this morning but one of them has a wound on her ankle that is bleeding a bit, nothing major but her foot looks...
