I recently went to a show where the judge chose not to use Birchen Modern Game Bantams because the faces were too red. The judge was correct that they are suppose to be mulberry, but have not been so strict on it in the past. Has anyone else witnessed this happening? Than you
IMy granddaughter showed some Modern Game Bantams this last weekend. She didn’t do well so I investigated for a reason.
These two males have red faces. I learned this is something new among the judges not to use Birchen or Silver-blue Moderns unless they have the mulberry face. I didn’t know...
My granddaughter and I have been showing Modern Game Bantams for several years. Now she wants to also show Old English Game Bantams. We are looking for ideas to buy or build pens to keep these Old English in separate pens to keep rather from ruining feathers while deciding which ones to show.
I have a Nurture Right 360 incubator that worked just fine last year. We set the first 2020 eggs and the automatic turner will not work. I can manually turn the eggs by simultaneously pushing the “+” and “-“ buttons. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to make the turner work...
Collin County Texas held a Poultry show this week. My granddaughter entered a cockerel, cock, and 4 pullets. She had the champion bantam male of the show with a Birchen. It was a blast with some really good birds.
I had a pair of curved scissors given to me by a veterinarian. They were great, but have been misplaced. As soon as it cools off, I will be dubbing birds for the fall/winter shows. I would be interested in any recommendations you OEGB or Modern game bantam exhibitors might have.
I had a half grown Old English Game Bantam in a pen made of 1in. X 2in. wire. I went out this morning the chick was dead. It appears that his head and hackle feather had been went and matted. His eyes were closed. Personally, I think it was a snake due to the chick being in the wire cage...
If you have a Nurture Right 360 Incubator containing candled viable eggs on their 12th day, the turner will be turned off in 6 days. Can eggs be added before turning off the turner and have the new eggs to withstand the 3 days without being turned?
Thanks
I have a pullet that has been acting ill. She she was fluffed up and just not herself. I treated her yesterday with Vet Rx and she is better today. However, she will not open one eye. I checked the eye and a little watery (clear) and can’t see anything in her eye.
Today, I put some...
Can someone remind me how long a hen needs to be with the rooster before her eggs are fertile? It seems that her third egg will be fertile, but I can’t recall. My granddaughter wants to hatch chickens from the incubator.
Thanks to all,
Larry
I am getting some Birchen Modern Game Bantams and this will be my first experience with these neat birds. Years ago I raised and showed Old English Game Bantams, OEGB’s. There were some good show birds produced by years of linebreeding. They were linebreed to the point that some female show...
I have been looking for show quality Modern Game Bantams and have a question about their breast. All of them that I have handled has a deep keel bone. How much of the keel should be covered by muscle.
Thanks,
Larry
Does anyone know of a person in north central Texas, Oklahoma, western Arkansas or western Louisiana that has show quality Modern Game Bantams? Variety does not matter.
Thanks,
Larry
Hi Group,
I'm seeking advice on preparing Old English Game Bantams for showing. I purchased some of the show wire pens to place my granddaughter's Bantams in to prepare the birds for showing. She has large animals in the barn and keeps cedar shavings down for her calves. I have never seen...
My situation has changed to where I have to keep my chickens penned. It didn't take long for them to eliminate the grass so I have to start feeding greens. Are there any greens, grasses, etc. that is toxic to chickens. In my area you can't let cows on Johnson grass with frost on it. The...
Hello,
My name is Larry and I live in North-central Texas. I exhibited Old English Game Bantams several years ago. My interest has changed to game chickens and I am just starting to breed down some game chickens to the size of American Game Bantams (AGB). The AGB males that are being used...
