Ok, so the pullet eggs are getting big enough to sell, and my dh announces at work we will be selling eggs, there were about five people saying I want some and a couple people said they wanted 2 dozen a week. Plus a lady down the road from us wants a dozen a week. I am only getting about 5 1/2...
A hawk attack! It got one of my BO pullets. So now the chickens stay in the run untill we are outside to watch the skies. Although they seem more vigilant now. Even the ducks are looking up more often.
Then last night around 11 pm, my dh steps outside before going to bed, and calls for me to...
Yesterday afternoon, we saw 2 of our hens get into a fight, they are older and we have had them for a year. One is a rir and the other a sex link. They had their neck feathers fluffed out and were chest bumping, then the rir gave the sexlink a good peck in the neck, and she went down, then some...
I am ready to put the chicks out to the coop. I need some ideas as to how to introduce them to the adult hens so there won't be too much stress and fighting. I have 5 adult hens and 11 chicks. No run, they free range.
I got them from MPC, I ordered 9 and 11, since they usually send roos as extras, do you see any roos?
Barred rock
white leghorn, 1 is extra
glw, slw
EEs
Buff orps
RIR, 1 is extra
Do I open the box right at the counter to check for deaths or problems ?
I know this is probably a silly question, but I never got chicks through the mail before, and want to be sure what to do, and act like I know what I'm doing in front of the postmaster.
This was on Good Morning America this morning.
If the link doesn't work go to the GMA site, and search chicken sledding. Dial up probably can't load it, I cant.

edited to add, I was able to load it, it just took about 45 minutes ! Really worth...
They have been laying in the nest boxes, but the last couple of days I've been finding the eggs on the floor under the nest boxes. Why are they doing this? I have 3 hens laying right now, and 2 of them have started laying on the floor.
I'm starting to have more hens laying. Am going to sell a couple dozen eggs a week. What do you do with your egg money? Add it to your wallet as extra spending money, or save it in a jar with a goal in mind for a special purchase?
After a hen lays a soft shell egg does it take a while before she lays again?
My RIR layed a soft shell egg 4 days ago, has not laid any eggs at all since.
I only want about 3 EE young pullets/chicks. The big hateries have order minimums. Is there anyone close to Washington, PA that could ship or deliver that many safely? Or should I just wait and see what the feed stores have in the spring?
