I hatched some welsummer eggs I purchased, and I am growing out 3 pullets. They are 4 weeks old and look odd to me.
I have quite a variety of breeds in my flock, but I’ve never had any that have this beak shape/size as the welsummers.
Normal for this breed or bad genetics?
I keep my eggs on the counter, and while looking at my new layer’s egg, I noticed 3 tiny, tiny oval shaped grayish/tan color bugs on 2 eggs. I squished them immediately, with no effort or force at all.
I had surgery, so my kids have been putting the mail on the counter. We’ve had below...
My broody is on day 19 with her eggs. I think she accidentally stepped on one and crushed the shell on one side this morning. The internal membrane is intact, and she is still sitting on it. I could see the chick moving in the membrane.
Anyone have this happen, not intervene, and baby still hatch?
I’m about 98% accurate when sexing regular chicks by 6 weeks. But I’ve heard Silkies are tough, and it’s my first time with them.
I have 3 that based on comb look to be cockerels. Looking for confirmation. They are 6 weeks old now. The buff is single comb and also getting wattles, so I’m almost...
I have a 20 week old cockerel in with my hens and pullets. I have 5- 10 week olds I want to integrate. 2 of the 10 week olds are cockerels.
I want to integrate all 5, because the more there are, the easier integration seems to be. After they are integrated, I plan on getting rid of the 10 week...
I have a Hovabator 1602n with a fan kit and auto turner. I use a reptile hygrometer that I calibrated. The relative humidity in the house is 44% but inside the incubator the hygrometer is only reading 15%
I would think the inside incubator air should be the same relative humidity as the room
I...
I have an egg on day 11. I’ve been watching it closely because the embryo is developing appropriately, but never leaves the spot it’s in on the side of the shell. Today when I checked, it apeared to have a black substance near the chick, not it’s eyeball. The chick is clearly still alive, but is...
All 5 of my Spitz chicks have been very flighty and skittish, up until a couple days ago. This little one has become very curious with me, and it looks as though it has some pink in its tiny little wattles. Thoughts?
It’ll be 3 weeks old on Friday. Single comb chicks are so much easier to sex!!
I have 25 eggs on day 17 today. Most of them are looking right where they should be, but I have a few that are very clearly still alive and active when I candle, but only taking up the room in the egg of a day 12-14 day egg. I've never experienced this before. The eggs are on the larger side...
I picked up these 4 Barred Rock “pullets “. They are about 4 weeks old. I originally thought I had bad luck and got 3 roos, but posting somewhere else, many have said only 1 that actually looks like a BR. Do I have 3 cockerels and 1 pullet of Barred Rock, or do I have 1 BR pullet and 3 of a...
So, I’m very new to incubating. I purchased a used 1602n with a fan kit. Do I leave the red vent covers in during the whole incubation process? Would that help stabilize my humidity? Thank you!
My 15 week amerecauna pullet is very unsteady on her feet, and is laying down almost continually. Just started today. He tail is low and she stumbles. She is eating and drinking. No visible sign of any respitory distress. When she lays down, she is all fluffed out
I bought some poly vi sol, and...
. It's my smallest and most shy chicken. It's comb isn't red, only flushes pink, but it stands differently than my confirmed pullets, and now it's starting to get a couple curved tail feathers near the top of its tail. I'd be bummed if it's a late bloomer cockerel, it has the best beard, you can...
