I understand that EE’s are basically a mutt type of chicken. I know tracing what breeds they’ve come from can but nothing but a guess and I’ve seen a wide variety in the time I've been tasing a backyard flock. The attached photo is my rooster “Lil Wayne”. I’ve seen severa other people on here...
thinking about hatching some eggs from these two. Any idea what I’d get? Rooster is EE and the cuckoo/barred pattern hen at the top of the pic is an OE. Her eggs are a darker green with speckles sometimes.
got this supposed little lady at the co-op today. First of this little tailess breed that I’ve owned. What color would you say it is? I see a wide variety of colors online for them.
I have 13 chicks that are 75% English Orpington and 25% Australorp. They range from 7 weeks to 5 weeks. I’ve been told they are harder to sex until 8-10 weeks of age. When they reach that age, what will I be looking for to distinguish the different sexes? Bigger combs and wattles? I’ve also read...
I went out to my run/coop tonight to gather eggs and noticed my 8-9 month old Copper Maran was dead, lying underneath the coop inside the run. She had no apparent injuries, was stiff so I know she has been dead for some time. Definitely was not dead last night when I gathered eggs. She hadn’t...
Just hatched 3 English Orpington chicks. Their mothers are black, the fathers could have been a variety of English Orpington color. How early can they be sexed?
My RIR has been laying eggs like this for months. Just dawned on me that it may not be a hatchable egg with its shape. I have a few in the incubator that I started yesterday. Anyone have any experience with these shapes? Any knowledge as to why this occurs?
just got this from someone and noticed today it appears to have some rooster like tail feathers. Any Polish chicken owners out there can confirm? Was told it’s a hen when I bought it.
Bought this lady a little over a month ago and I can't remember how old the lady told me she was. She told me at first she was an ameraucana and most tell me that's she's actually an EE'r. Can anyone look at these pics and give me a rough guess as to age? Muchas Gracias!!
Back in Feb I bought two mixed Chics that were thought to be part BR. Throughout the last several months they've looked a lot like BR with exception of their combs (rose) and their leg color. Today one of the laid their first egg and what do you know!? Olive color! Anyone have any mixes like...
Today is day 23. We went into lockdown on day 18 after we candled them. I remember seeing 2 of them move. After hitting day 23 today we candled them and noted no movement. The yolk isn't completely absorbed so is that day 18/19 deaths? Any ideas? Incubator temp stayed the same. This is our first...
this young lady and her sister don't have very pronounced combs and they're 5 months old. Is this common? The lady I got them from said they were BR's crossed with another breed she wasn't sure of.
I got a Welsummer hen yesterday and expected her eggs to be brown with dark brown speckles. Today she laid an egg and is a darkish brown with white speckles. Is this a normal type?
