I started my Free Ranging flock on a Cracked Corn and mineral mix.
After see most of it on the floor. I tried different types of feeders, but each one failed for one reason or another.
I switched to a crumble a year ago. They ate even the dust in the beginning. Now, they scratch out the corn...
I have 4, 3 1/2 month old,Silkies and have been in my house since they hatched.
They are off of heat, have been for awhile, fully feathered, and I want to put them in our coop. Its not heated,no drafts, lightly insulated.

I have been having a bit of trouble with an Owl and A Red Shouldered Hawk.
I read Plenty on the internet and from BYC about how to keep them away.
I have the Owls schedule down,so its not too much of a problem now,but the Hawk is a different story. Until two days ago.
I heard a huge ruckus...
I have a baby chick that is one month old,has baby chick down still, and is trying to Crow. He is around other Cockerels.
Isn't this Way Young to crow.
The Little Booger actually gets out a bit of a Crow. Baffled me.
My Porcelain was taken from me today by my old Nemesis " the Owl"
I will miss her like crazy. She talked to me sometimes.
Her twin will miss her too I'm sure.
Rest in peace Porcey!
I acquired four Silkie chickens a month ago.
I kept them separate from my flock for two weeks and showed no signs of Any sort of problems.
I keep them separate during the day,but they roost together at night.
Yesterday morning I noticed blood on poop under two of the Silkies. Nothing can be seen...
My Banty got attacked today. Her Skin is pulled away from her breast about the size of a baseball.
No bleeding that I can see.
She is awake but in a lot of pain. She is squeezing her toes and throwing her head back in pain.
I can't stand to see her in pain. I don't know how to divide the line...
I have 4 silkies.
Two hens and two Roosters.
Funny thing is they have bonded into pairs.
Neither Rooster bothers with the other roisters hen.
They DO NOT separate! The two pairs are Very inseparable!
They even Flog any other hens that come close.
Anyone else ever see this happen?
I have a maran rooster that is mounting my Hamburg hen so much he has pulled her feathers out and has tore her skin. My other hens are fine. He mounts her if she walks by,gets off her perch. Just my Hamburg is being treated this way.
Anyone have any idea why he would choose her over 5 other hens?
