    cheapest roof and siding options

Still in the planning stages for an 8x8 coop. I am assuming that T1-11 is probably the cheapest siding option. It runs $35 a sheet. What about roofing - I have never shingled before, so what is the cheapest the wavy metal roofing or shingles? Or is there another roofing option? This will be...

Sebastopol Geese for sale in SW Washington

We moved to a smaller place so I need to sell my 4 Sebastopol geese. All four were hatched this spring. I *think* there might be 2 males and 2 females, but I don't know for sure. Asking $45 each. I also might have a 1588 Genesis Hovabator with egg turner for sale, too, to go along with the...

Young bantams - japanese, cochin in SW Washington

We hatched these out, but just moved and don't have the time to build a coop, nor is our new neighborhood going to be too rooster friendly. 5 black tailed white Japanese. 4 are pullets, 1 is a roo. Great breeding flock. 3 Silver-penciled cochin. All 3 are roos. These are beautiful - would...

I have a Sebastopol and one more on the way!!

A sebastopol just hatched and the other egg is pipped!! I started with 4 eggs that were shipped within state. One didn't develop, and one died at about 2 weeks. I also cheated and bought 2 goslings a week ago, because I was worried that the eggs wouldn't hatch - now I might end up with 4...

    Advice for incubating geese eggs

Just wondering how most people do it. I've read humidity recommendations of 55 to 65% for the first 25 days, then 75-80% until hatch. Also, it seems most people mist them once a day. Anything else I should know?

I need a quick answer please!

I just had my very first ever chick hatch!! Perfect timing - I have to leave for work in 15 minutes!!! The humidity shot up to 75% - do I leave the red vent plug out or in? Is 75 too high? I won't be back for 5 hours. If I leave the plug out will the humidity drop too much in 5 hours? If I...

So far, so good - my first time

I have a brand new Genesis Hovabator. I have a dozen eggs on day 9 that were shipped across the country. I just candled and 11 had veins and were dancing around and one had a blood ring. I'm so thrilled that things are going so good (so far!). The hovabator has been great - holds temp and...

    Sebastopol vs ducks?

I have been wanting sebastopols for awhile now. But here is the thing - I tried pekin ducks and really didn't like them because they were so messy. So messy with water and digging in the dirt/mud. So, are geese any easier to keep than ducks - or are they maybe even worse?!

    tx-6 turning rings

I thought I had heard that one of the rings is capable of turning both standard and bantam eggs - is this true, or do you need to have both rings on hand? I was thinking that I had heard that on one size of ring you were able to turn it upside down to effectively turn another size of egg?????

My one year old male pekin has a scabby bill. When it first started it looked like some of the top layers of the bill were peeling off. It bleeds on occasion now.

Eating eggs after dusting for mites/lice

I got a garden/animal insect dust at the feed store. Is there any withdrawal time, or can you eat the eggs? The feed store didn't know, the can doesn't mention it and I've never heard anyone mention it before... Also, do you have to keep repeating the applications - when, and for how long? I...

What would you do - tx-6 or 20DX

Ok, I have it narrowed down. $250 is my max to spend. I can get the manual Lyon tx-6 for $206 or the manual Brinsea 20DX for $224. Which would you get? I think that they both hold about the same amount of eggs. Manual turning appears to be very easy for both of them. They both seem to...
