    BO broody

My BO sat in the nest box most of yesterday. Kicked her out and she spent some time foraging. Today back in the box and we kicked her out again and I dipped her belly in my dogs pool to "cool" her off. I blocked off the nest boxes for the night around 7 and the poor thing ran around clucking and...

    Lice?

Last summer I noticed these little bugs under the rain flap of my nest box. Never found any in bedding or on girls. This year I have found them on eggs and in the nest box. Dusted the girls and will check them when I have a second pair of hands. Are they chicken lice?

    More egg issues

Last month I posted a pic of an egg laid by my welsummer that had extra rough deposits on it. She hasn't had any more eggs until yesterday when I found a shell less egg in the coop. Today I found a shell less egg in nest box and what I think is a soft shell..only shell..on the floor of the coop...

2 of my 3 girls have just started laying again..( BO and SS)they are three different breeds so I know whose eggs they are. My welsummer had not started back up but I found this in the pen today below where they roost in the morning after having breakfast. ( no where near nest box) The inside...

Laying for 2 weeks then stopped?

My 3 girls will be 2 years old in April. Last winter they layed pretty much the entire season. I do not supplement with light to keep them laying although 3 days a week I put lights in pen on at 6am so they aren't sitting in the dark. When I start my car for work the headlights shine enough...

Is there such a thing as a coop that's too big?

I have a small coop for my 3 girls. It's about 3 1/2 x 4 feet. They seem to like it and never have issues going in or getting along. We had a small frostbite problem last winter and I have been looking into raising the roof on this one or getting a bigger one. I found an A frame shed that was...

    Good bones for new coop?

I came across this sandbox gazebo and can't help thinking it would make an awesome little coop..ventilation on all sides where it's circled..solid roof panels where the arrow is. I could make ( well, hubby could make) Windows on more than one panel with a door taking up one side of the hexagon...
