Today I noticed something weird with my hens foot. She walks fine, runs, and also roost fine. However, her toe is definitely broke... so it looks! Any ideas on what to do? Pictures below!
Hey guys!!
I've had my eye on a light Brahma for awhile now and was FINALLY able to purchase one.
It is a pullet that's 4 months old. Not fond of people just yet... the people caught it with a net which freaked me out. My flock of 6 is very very friendly.
Any recommendations to get this girl...
Trying to beat this Georgia heat, so I made my chickens watermelon treats.
:)
I wanted to triple check that the seeds won't hurt them to eat?
I've frozen them, cut up in ice cube trays and even froze the skin of the watermelon.
I have grass in it now.. but before long it'll just be dirt. What do you guys put in your chicken run?
In best boxes I put hay. I put pine shavings in the coop. But what in the whole run? It's a 18x18.
Seems like a crazy question! I have two silkie hens (at laying age) that I just purchased. Planning to add them to my flock after keeping them indoors for a couple weeks or so. They are in a huge dog crate (Great Dane size/ the biggest dog crate they make) I have a container in it with pine...
My chickens are in a 18x18 run.. the left over food is attracting a insane amount of bugs.
= wasted food! Moisture gets in it through the night, mud, and even rain that somehow blows into the food.
What are thoughts on troughs? Or maybe throwing food in a bowl type thing for them to eat out...
I have a coop inside a chicken run. (Two of them actually)
Should I close the coop doors at night if the runs that are attached to the coop are locked shut? See photos.
My chicken run is covered. Excuse me, covered, infested, etc... that's a understatement.
At first it was too many flys- got fly traps.
My fiancé wants a chemical safe for the chickens to spray on the ground to kill them. I won't allow, being dangerous for chickens.
Any recommendations?
I have 4 standard chickens that have a 18x18 run and coop. However, having to keep silkies (4 total) separate from them.. not getting along, at all!
Are they able to live in this coop pictured? If not, may have to find a new home for these babies.
literally.. as in I have my big chickens barred rocks going after my silkies.
My silkies have been in a dog crate, inside my girls' run for a week now. I let them all out to see if they would be okay... immediately the big girls chase the silkies and peck them so that the silkies yelp(a chicken...
hey guys!
My run and coop are both on top of a grass area. As I know, it's a matter of time before the grass turns to dirt.
Should I keep the dirt? Add sand? Hay?
Any advice would be great!
Also, when considering a dust bath. I was going to dig a hole, Add DE to mix with the dirt. But when it...
Hey guys! My silkies (4) our officially in the run with chickens that are two weeks older than them. Which includes 3 bantams and 3 big hens. 2 of the bantams are roosters and are actually bullying the other bantam in the flock... so I'm taking precautions on introducing my silkies. (Pretty sure...
I have a flock of seven which consist of
3 Bantam Roos
1 Cochin hen
2 barred rock hens
1 jersey giant hen.
They are only a couple weeks older than my other flock I got shortly after them,
Which consist of
3 silkie hens and 1 silkie roo.
I still have the silkies inside in a pen.. in my...
I got 4 Bantam chicks out of the assorted Bantam bin at Tractor Supply. 3 of the 4 turned out to be Roos.
I don't have enough hens or enough room to have so many roosters.
They are 2 months old and just started to crow. Golden sebright Bantams!
Hey guys, this gentle giant is about 2 months old. The biggest out of all her brothers and sisters, got it out the straight run bin at Tractor Supply.
Any idea what breed or gender?
I have three chickens, all about 2 months. One of them is crowing. However, they all three are identical.
Is it just time before the other two start crowing? Or is there a possibility they could be pullets??
Any idea on what breed Bantam?
Hey guys!
I have a flock of four silkie chicks!
They are almost two months and ONE OF THEM IS TRYING TO CROW. First time having silkies and I'm having trouble sexing them.
