I have a couple bunnies who live with my flock. They have been eating the chicken feed, but the feed is not good for them. I need a feeder that the hens can eat out of but the bunnies can't. Anyone have any suggestions? I am also willing and able to make something DIY.
Thank you,
I have a broody hen sitting on 8 eggs. She has been broody for at least 2 weeks and has been sitting on 8 eggs for the past 11 days. She was doing so well with them. Last night when it got dark I decided to candle them to take out any duds. Seven of them were doing great and one wasn't fertile...
I am considering incubating some eggs for my broody hen and then giving them to her for lock down (day 18). Has anyone done this before? Does it work or would it be better to either let her hatch them the whole way or incubate them the whole way and give her day old chicks? She is a first time...
I hatched some chicks with the intension of selling them, but am not sure what age I should sell them. Is it okay to sell chicks that are under 4 days old?
Is it possible that adding new chicks to a flock could make a hen go broody? I ask because yesterday I introduced some 6.5 week chicks to my flock and now one of my hens seems to want to brood (she is sleeping in the nest). She is a proven broody who has hatched 3 clutches.
Or is this just a...
I am just about an hour from the start of the 23rd day so I thought I would candle the remaining 2 eggs. However, when I candled I found one was in the middle of hatching. Did I just screw up really bad or should t be okay? It was only out for a minute and put it back in the incubator.
Any guesses on breed? It came from a brown egg. The lady we got it from thought it was from a pen with Jersey Giants and Delewares, but that doesn't seem right. Some have guessed Vorwerk but she doesn't have that breed.
I have a heating plate in my brooder instead of a heat lamp. I am curious as to how many hours of light the chicks should be having. If I turn the lights out when the sun goes down (around 5pm) they seem to get hungry in the middle of the night. I also read that chicks should never be in the...
Anyone have experience with Swedish Orust Chickens? A local breeder just gave me her first egg from her breeding pair (not their first egg just the first she has received), and the egg seems super small. It is like a bantam size egg. I know they lay small to medium sized eggs, but I want to make...
I have a DIY incubator made from a refrigerator, and am wanting to try a dry hatch. I have the temp perfect, but I am having issues with the humidity. I have heard for a dry hatch you want to keep the humidity between 30%-40%. However, with adding no water at all the humidity is around 48%-50%...
I have an 8 month old pullet who has gone broody. I have 3 newly hatched chicks (3-5 days old) would it be okay to slip them under her or are they be too old for that or her be too inexperienced for that?
Right now I have 3 chicks in my brooder. A Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, a Jersey Giant, and a Silkie. Will I have issues having these breeds grow up together? I know the Jersey Giant will get much bigger than the other 2.
I have one of the large heating plates from Premium 1 and am wondering if you can put different sized chicks under it by making one side lover than the other or should it only be used for chicks of the same size?
I am making a DIY incubator out of an old refrigerator, but I am not sure if I should use a cool mist or warm mist humidifier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Does it look like something could be wrong with this chick? She is a 7 week old Americauna. She doesn't really extend her neck the way the other chicks do (but she is the only Americauna). She eats and acts normal, but has been like this since she hatched.
