Our hatch is half way done and we had a chick was malpositoned and stuck in the eggs for over 14hrs. After I cracked a zipline she busted out on her own. It seems something is wrong with her neck. I'm not certain if it's because she was squished in the egg but her head rolls backwards and she...
Im looking to buy 6+ fertile red shoulder yokohama hatching eggs. Npip prefered but show stock Is a must! Well need to be shipped to chandler arizona. Thank you. Pm here.
My co-workers flock was attacked by roaming dogs and three of her surviving hens are now handicapped. The rest of the flock has been starving them out and they can't get around the yard easily. The heat also poses an issue and on top of it one of the girls requires her food to be in a wetted...
I currently have an issue with a chick pecking the weaker one constantly. The two are roughly five days old in a larger steri-lite bin, a thermostat and a red heating lamp. One has had poopy butt from the moment I purchased her, I applied olive oil and then removed a few feather from that area...
I took my two pullets in today and my head ran around to the hows and whats of house chooks! Humor for a little and fill out my sexy survey?
Are your house chickens lonely? -insert zoloff commercial-
Does it mess up the pecking order to have them visit the outside run with the rest of the...
I can't seem to find a photo of Russian Orloff eggs and it also seems that they lay both white and tinted? Every other site says white or tinted...
HALPS
Our run is 6 ft wide and 20 ft long. The gate is gold-zinc from petsmart or something.
I really need to put some shading on top of the run. I worry however putting a tarp over it will lock in the hot air since only one side is open.
(the other is a wall) Am I being silly about the air flow...
My littles are starting to be biggens. Today/tonight (should say last night since it's AM) was their first whole 24 hrs in the coop. Without Mum taking them out for sandwiches on her bed and nighty night time. Mum was sure to give them three long visits and shower them with lovens though. I can...
Forgive me if this is already posted, I did use the search function but found no tribute to these adorable chicks! (or terrifying)
Cross Orloff chickens are also very welcome just as pures. As they are a critical breed and I like all forms.
Stories and extra tid bits about the chickens are...
I have two large tin feeders/waters for the chicken when they are old enough but in Arizona where it reaches 120f I am afraid of burning the chickens or the food heating up.
Has anyone had problems using these?
I don't know where else to post this but my baby cousins keep asking me how many feathers the chicks grow a day.
I can't really answer them other than "lots" but Im wondering if anyone has seen a website with full day by day picture development of chicks after hatch?
They'd love to see it.
I just went to the Rhode Island Red breed page for fun. My pullet has a prominent comb just like the cockerel in that page.
Am I right? This little one is my faveroit, very quite and loves to cuddle. If it's a rooster I will not be able to keep him/her even though I want to.
Sorry about the...
4 square feet per chicken in the coop and 10 square feet per chicken outside (if not more). So how does that apply to an open air coop?
For my design I really won't have much of a coop but an enclosed nest box area. There is not point since the heat would bake them, literally.
My two little pullets that seem be having oily poos but they also have normal and cecal poos.
I have introduced them to new foods, like crickets and mealworms so Im thinking this is the cause.
I have stopped the new foods since I've seen it however is there anything in particular I should offer...
I've been taking my pullets (Americana and Rhode Island Red) out in intervals, fifteen to twenty minutes of play, holding and petting then two hours or so back in the brooder for napping, eating and drinking.
Is that too much? They really don't seem to mind and I do raise the room temperature up...
