We seem to get an abundance of slow worms in our garden, which I'm continuously attempting to wrestle off the chickens. They are a protected species here in the UK, so I'm not sure what to do about it. Also, as slow worms eat a lot of worms and slugs, does this make them potential parasite...
We have a hen going into her first adult molten and was wondering, is sunburn an issue during this period? The weather is pretty decent at the moment and as they range around the garden, was just a bit worried, as to whether they'd have the sense to seek shade to give bald patches a break from...
Seems to be taking me a while to find a definitive answer to this question. I'm wondering how often people change the water when using a bucket and nipple system?
We are now well into December in the UK and our four hens are laying more regular than when they started in the summer... Theyve all been laying every day since the temperature dropped and the nights drew in. Not that I'm complaining, but it seems a bit backwards from what I've read?
Been having issues with a muddy run that I tend to dig over now and then. Was thinking about laying sand down but this raises a question about maintenance. Do you ever need to change the sand, or do you just rake it over now and then until it eventually works into the soil? Thanks
Just started noticing these eggs during the daily poop scoop of the coop. They seem to be on the poop rather than in them. Are they from intestinal worms?
Thanks in advance

One of our hens (gold line) laid a strange egg today. Usually brown but this one was very pale, strange shape and irregular texture to the surface. Any ideas on what this means?
Thanks
We have a hen that seems to be sneezing quite a bit. Last week it seemed quite lethargic and was off its food for a day. Now she's eating and drinking well, very active but sneezing a fair bit. No mucus, discharge or eye bubbles. We have 4 hens that have only come into lay within the last month...
Very new to owning laying hens. I've heard people talking about supplement lighting during the winter months to keep hens laying. Its nice to have a constant supply of eggs and all but do the chickens not benefit from a break over the winter? I wouldn't wanna go burning them out, as they're pets...
Hi there,
We've had our new point of lay hens now for 4 days and they've pretty much stripped the run of most vegetation. The run has to be permanent due to space. We're now putting down straw for them to rake through to make finding their scratch a bit more exciting. Any have any suggestions...
