A trio of blue silkies. One smooth feathered, one silkie feathered, one frizzled silkie feathered.
I don’t ship but willing to drive up to an hour to meet up.
Straight run.
I’ve got a broody with babies and brought her inside. She’s scratching and one of the babies keeps scratching the sides of her head/ears.
Since mama is warming chicks I haven’t given her a serious look over. I’m wondering if she could have lice or something?
I didn’t see anything on the...
I have 2 silver partridge silkie cockerels (one moorehead), and both solid white and solid blue silkie feathered satins, and a white satin, available for a small re-homing fee. They're still too young to determine sex 100% but I believe those are all female. I don't ship but can drive up at 90...
I know, I know, no heat in the coop and I’ve read about enough coop fires, but I went out this morning to open the pop door and had a 5 month old cock dead on the coop floor under the roost. One 7 month old cock cowering in a nest box. One 7 month old hen lethargic, another with her face all icy...
I set 24 eggs... hatched 24 chicks, which is, um, a lot to brood and add to my existing flock eventually.
They are a black frizzled sizzle mom with blue silkie dad (should be blue or splash, could be either silkie feathered, frizzled, or smooth feathered) or a blue half-Serama/half silkie mom...
So, I figured I'd try this for the first time, and go by weight goals instead of candling and judging by air cells.
As a general rule, it seems humidity needs to be mid-40's to low 50's for them to be on target, in my house, at this time and relative humidity, in this incubator... and 20 of...
I have some very sweet cockerels who need their own flocks. 2 silkied sizzles, splash and I guess what you'd call blue/silver partridge. One smooth feathered sizzle who I guess is porcelain.
I don't have good pix right now because they've been put in their places by my rooster and have pin...
I have a cockerel who is at the bottom of the pecking order. The other cocks keep trying to mount him. (He is very much a male). He tends to hide under the coop by himself, during the day, or goes off on his own if they're ranging.
He climbs into the nesting box with our broody hen every...
She went broody the day after I set eggs, and I gave her some of the older ones I had collected in the kitchen. So, she has a total of 8 eggs and I have a dozen of hers and the other Sizzle hens in the incubator. I also have a dozen half silkie/half Serama eggs in there and I'm thinking of...
I'm about to set my first (half silkie/half serama) Pippi eggs, and I've read from people that hatch dry, and say they have the best hatch rate that way, to people that incubate at 60% humidity, and say that gives them the best rate.
I've NOT had good luck with prior attempts at dry incubation...
I've been lurking and reading and learning for yeeeeeeears!
I've got a serious hatching addiction.
I hatched out our first flock about a year and a half ago. Lost 11/12 birds (one lone silkie roo survivor) to a raccoon attack in one night late last winter.
Adopted 2 sizzles and a bantam...
