My chicks are 9 weeks old now and I am about to use up my second bag of starter. So I keep them on starter until the start to lay or do I change their diet now?
I have 4 pounds of Strawberries in my fridge that are teetering between ripe and over ripe, some of them have that little bit of fuzzy mold started. Are they headed to my compost bin or are they still ok for the chickens?
They were supposed to be 12 x 12 x 12 but I didn't think about the lumber dimensions so the openings ended up being 11" high and the two on the ends ended up only 10.5" wide, I hope the girls don't mind.
I'm planning my coop/run. My location I've chosen is not level and I get flood irrigation. My plan, so far, is to level the area with "footing" made of retaining wall blocks. I was then going to frame the base of the run and coop on that and my initial thought was to use pressure treated 4x4s...
...give my chicks worms from the garden? I have a cartoon running through my head of these goofballs tug-o-waring over worms and chasing each other all around trying to get the others worm (kinda like my toddler and my 3 year old).
Just want to say hi after lurking here for a couple months. I finally got some chicks today, 3 RIR and 3 Barred Rocks. I think they are pretty awesome and wish I had room for more.
