I need to move my chicken house:
Where we had it they were getting picked off by chicken hawks so we moved it to an open field but they were miserable in the heat and hid under the trees at the edge of the field most of the day. That was last summer.
This year, we need to move it before summer...
I have raised chickens off and on for 20 years. Just a few breeds most of the time. I have either always let the mother hatch and raise them or else raise them by the book: chick starter, chick grower, laying pellets, etc... It used to be really cheap years ago. Now, I think it is costing me...
I have never ordered from Sand Hill Preservation Center....but I want to. I was reading the few reviews on here about it...and also other sites. When I read a review, someone said they got Mycoplasma from Sand Hill. Now, I can't find that review and I am wondering if anyone has gotten a disease...
I am aware this is a long shot but I am looking for free Hens in Central Arkansas. Yes, I know chickens are expensive right now so I am perfectly fine with older non-laying girls.
I am getting them for pest control because we live on several acres in the woods.
I placed this ad on Craiglist...
I am looking at Easter Egger pullets from Ideal Poultry. The internet says Easter Eggers lay 200-250 eggs per year (this depends on which article you read). However, Ideal Poultry says they lay 160 eggs per year on their website. This doesn't seem like much and I was wondering if any of you have...
I have Heritage RIR (who refuse to lay eggs). I also have some Black Australorps from Ideal Poultry. The internet seems to infer there is a difference between production and heritage Australorps but I can't find that difference. Is it the same as Heritage vs. Production RIR? Someone told me the...
Possible chicken scenario that may or may not be mine: I have raised chickens off and on for years. I started with them as babies from my 80 year old neighbor Lazy J's Poultry in Alexander, AR (He's the best if you live close!) . As long as no predators got them, I did fine with them. Once...
I had to start over with brand new birds at my home in Little Rock, AR. I purchased some birds that came from an Amish hatchery in Missouri.. I got a few eggs the first days they were here which is rare considering most new birds don't lay for a few weeks. Now, I have not gotten any eggs in...
We got Mycloplasma and had to cull around 110 chickens. Does anyone know, after getting it and getting rid of all your birds, how long you have to wait to get more poultry. The internet gives different scenarios so I was personally looking for someone who has first hand experience.
I am having to replace a bunch of birds. I bought several from the Flea Market an hour from my house. I have still not found a bunch of Golden Laced Wyandottes. I will still try the flea market on the weekends and Craigslist because I love my Golden Laced Wyandottes but I am thinking about...
I had some roosters get sick and die. No hens died. I took in 2 of the dead birds to the Arkansas Veterinary Laboratory and it was apparently one of the worst mistake that I ever did in relation to my animals. They both died from Mycoplasma and now they want to send someone out to swap my birds...
I can't find the right starter group to put this in but I am wanting to start a thread for people wanting to sell birds in Arkansas. I'm not selling any on here right now but I know that eventually I will have some. Facebook is blocking animals posts and I saw today where they were blocking eggs...
My German Bielefelders will be 2 years old in June. It is currently March. I purchased 17 hens and 2 roosters. I still have 10 of those hens and a rooster from another place. They are from a hatchery so they are pure breeds. This winter, I didn't use artificial lights partly because I don't...
I am guessing the answer to this changes with each person/state/circumstance but I would like to know what you have found the best chicken to raise.
I have a huge chicken coop where I live. I have purchased several other small chicken coops that cost less but dogs can break into, etc... It...
I have suddenly started losing roosters. A few seemed to get an eye infection in one eye only and then pass a days a few days later. The others act sick a few days and then pass. I have thrown every chicken antibiotic known to man at them and stuck wormer on their back and down their throats...
I have had chicken several times in the past. I had a chicken coop fenced-in that I'm estimating was one eighth of an acre with a chicken coop in side of it that was an 8 by 10. I locked the chickens in at night and let them free range during the day and I got tons of eggs which I would give...
