My last post didn’t get a response so I’m trying again:
I have a bantam chick where her feet sit above her wings and she sits on her hocks. Bandaids or rubber bands don’t fit her and are too big or just don’t stick because of her feathers. Anything else I can try?
Last year I hatched two chickens. The rest didn't make it. The membrane was the problem. There isn't a vitamin deficiency, we made sure we feed bread and eggs.
This year, so far, 5 chicks didn't make it. Fully developed, but it's the membrane! Cracked them open, gorgeous little babies(4 black...
I have 5 eggs on day 24. I'm getting worried. I have around 10 eggs on day 21. A few on day 19. What should I do? The eggs look like they all have chicks. It's not smelling bad yet.
I have a Golden Sex Link gal that isn't moving much. She waddles when she walks, and is puffed up. When I try to move near her, she shifts away. She isn't laying. I know that she's drinking and eating. She is thin, but, she has always been tiny. Could she be egg bound? Sick?
Was walking out with my gun to get the two dogs that were attacking my coop. Heard screaming. My neighbor was helping me, so I asked him to get the two dogs while I grabbed the chicken being mauled by my dogs. No other chickens were hurt, yet I cant find 4 hens. I brought the chicken that was...
Had half of my flock killed by two dogs, along with MY own dogs. Scratch that- my dogs only injured one of my babies. I was able to shoot one of the dogs-but that was it. How do I fix this problem? Will they be back?
I was looking over my hens and roosters, then I got confused and saw something strange. One of my RIR hens has a weird lump that's about the size of a baseball. It is on around her crop, but off to the side. I haven't felt it, but it looks strange on a small little gal like her. I don't know if...
I'm about to go on lockdown with approximately 30 eggs fertilized and ready to hatch in a few days. Any tips on what we should do during lockdown or after lockdown? I want this hatch to be almost perfect!
In my previous attempt with hatching eggs, most of the eggs didn't make it. After smelling the eggs and making sure the chicks were dead, I cracked a few and looked at the little babies. They were fully developed, which is what I was confused about. Maybe I cracked them too soon? Was there not...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is my first flock, had them for about 4 years, second time incubating.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 15 chickens so far, with an incubator running at the moment.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Rock...
I found this guy a few months ago hanging with my hens when they were out roaming, and I suspected that he was a Birchen Maran, but now, I'm not too sure. He's about the size of my golden sex link hens. I'm thinking he's a little older, but I'm not too good with age. If anyone could help me...
My hens are constantly beating each other up. Many only have a few feathers missing but that's it. Some go to as far as having chest, wing, and back feathers missing. My two roosters are both as sweet as can be and don't beat any hen up. They have been like this for months and I don't think it's...
