I know six weeks might be a little young to be free roaming (I live in a quiet small town) but they’re all doing fine before this point! She’s a golden sexlink, I chased the cat across the street before it dropped her (this happened yesterday) She can walk (her legs aren’t broken) but incredibly...
I have a Rhode Island Red that was doing fine yesterday but is now extremely weak/tired looking. It's been up in the 105 degree zone the past few days and I think that might be the main factor. She layed down in a very tight spot with shade. I found her on the ground and when I picker her up...
There is a heat wave coming tomorrow (108-110) and I have a mister set up yet they are avoiding it. Will they eventually figure it out? I don't want them to die of heat stroke because they didn't like the mist. The floor is getting pretty wet so I'm thinking they might just use the wet mud to...
1. they are pushing two weeks old at this point. (rhode island reds) I haven't given them any grit and they seem fine. Can I make my own grit/can they find it themselves?
2. They seem bored in the brooder. I want to give them something to do. (I'd be bored out of my mind if I were in there so...
I got some chicks yesterday and now they're home and safe. I turned the heat lamp on, made sure they know where the food and water was, watched them for a while and noticed they were eating a lot. When I woke up they were still eating. (The heat lamp is on the opposite side from the food) Should...
I am driving to a Tractor Supply to buy 4 (maybe 5) chicks. It's a 1 hour 45 minute drive and the altitude change is about 500 ft. Will the chicks be okay? Will they be okay without heat (I'll make sure the car is not freezing cold) for about 2 hours? (I'm aware they'll probably make a lot of noise)
So I'm getting some chickens soon and was wondering if I need to get bedding. The ground is all dirt. I have hay to use for the nesting boxes but I want to know if it is even worth putting hay down in the coop itself.
