So my old rooster ( gone now ) tore up all of my hens backs from mating with them. I can’t remember if this hen got her back tore up, but I think she did. Also the feathers on her feet are doing the same thing. Anyway, her back is covered in little feather nubs, and I was wondering if it is new...
I've noticed some of my hens are missing feather right underneath their crop and where their missing feathers the skin is flakey and scabby. I also have some hens that are missing feathers starting right underneath their beaks and going down to the crop. Is it mites? Or something related to...
I have a 5-6 month old Plymouth barred rock/Dixie rainbow hen, that decided she wants to be a mom. I can have up to 30 chickens in my area, so I gave her 1 egg to hatch to see if she'll be good mom. She's being a really good mom so far, keeping other hens away, but she's off the nest right now...
ok, so I have some chickens, which I’m hoping to be hens. I’m leaning to most likely yes they all are. All the chickens in the photos aren’t 4-5 months old. And then the last photo is of one of my roosters who I’m not sure on the breed. It’s something crossed with Dixie rainbow.
I free range my chickens in my orchard which is mostly grapevines, and they love to eat the leaves. When I prune the vines I give the clippings to them and they go nuts for them. I know the leaves are safe for human consumption, but are they safe for chickens?
She just started limping. I’ve checked for bumblefoot, and there’s no swelling or pink patches. We’re building an extension onto the coop, so I’m wondering if she could’ve gotten caught in some wire we had lying around? If she doesn’t improve by tomorrow what should I do?
So right now I have about 13 roosters. 1 adult that I have in my flock right now, and 12 other chicks that I know for sure are roosters. I'm most likely going to cull all these including the adult one, but I'm going to save 2 of them, and hopefully have them fill the role of rooster. I say 2...
I’ve already posted something about this about 1/2 a month ago but I’m having doubts about the genders of these chickens. They’re 2 months old now and I know for sure 3 of the are roosters but I don’t know about the other 4.
I already posted about this but then I found the sales forum and I was told putting the area I’m in, in the title would help things. But I have 4 ,2 month old roosters. 2 white leghorns, 1 barred rock dixie rainbow mix, and 1 buff Orpington dixie rainbow mix. I also have some three week old...
I couldn’t find the sales forum, but I have 4, 2 month old roosters I need to get rid of. 2 white leghorn roosters, 1 Barred rock Dixie rainbow mix, and 1 Buff Orpington Dixie rainbow mix. I’m in south west Utah. I have some other 3 week old chicks that might be roosters too. I don’t know how...
i free range my chickens everyday, and the lands they’re on is half grassy green orchard and half desolate dirt field. The dirt field does have Little Rock’s and stuff. Are they getting enough grit? Their poop looks normal if that has anything to do with this.
I didn't know where to put this, but I chose this forum. Right now I have a gigantic Dixie rainbow rooster, but he's too big for some of my hens. He's hurting their backs and plucking their feathers. I'm thinking of getting a replacement rooster (if it is one). I have 27 chicks that I'm raising...
about 2 months ago I hatched 7 chicks, late February, I hatched 23 more lol. I sold 3 and now I’m down to 20 burn im only going to be keeping 6. But here’s some pictures of them playing outside. The two little ones in the 2nd picture I bought last week and there called sapphire gems. They’re a...
I think I may have mites in my coop. One of my hens is losing feathers on her back, I was reading that a good way to treat them is to combine 2 cups water with 1 cup cooking oil and 1 tablespoon of dish soap. Do you spray it on the chickens as well in the coop? Or just in the coop?
A week ago I hatched some baby chicks, but today I went into cal ranch and they had some chicks called Sapphire gems. I couldn't help myself and I bought 2. When I went to go put them in all the older chicks started picking on the new ones. They're in a separate little box right now, but how can...
Using a Pearson's square I've come up with a feed mixture and I'm wondering if it will actually work out. I designed it to fit the needs of laying hens, and it's under a 50 pound batch size. 37.5 pounds of corn to 12.5 pounds of cotton seed meal. With a scoop of oyster shells mixed in every time...
I have moved my 3 week old (4 weeks old in 2 days) outside, the things is it's getting down to 26 tonight, but I have a heat lamp on them along with a towel on one side to insulate. Inside on the side, not under the light, it's 65 degrees, I'm waiting to get a reading on directly under the...
I have some chicks that are 3 weeks old, they have a lot of feathers. The only problem is that it gets down into the 20's right now. I know that they're definitely not able to go out right now, but when should they be able to? It's going to start warming up pretty soon. And in the day it gets to...
Pretty soon I'm going to have 30 full grown chickens (1 Rooster, 29 Hens) and I was wondering if my coop was big enough. The coop itself is 380 Square feet, and everyday at around 3:10 pm I let them out to roam. They have a little over an acre all to themselves.
