Respiratory Disease. What would you do?

My flock has suffered from a respiratory disease. We have not tested to see which one it is yet. The last egg I got from them was August 6th. All my girls are under 2 years. I really noticed symptoms August 18th after we got some rain(we don’t get much rain where we are). Should I cull the...

Respiratory infection in closed flock (show birds)

How the heck does a closed flock get respiratory infection? I’m not exactly sure which specific infection it is. They sneeze a little bit during the day but at night is when you can really hear the gurgling when they breath. They do have nasal discharge but no other symptoms, they eat/drink/and...

Does not meet sop, not a breed?

I got curious from seeing so many Facebook posts “what breed is my chicken” with answers like “that bird has yellow legs so it is a barred rock, not a cuckoo marans”. I have also heard from multiple people that, if a bird does not meet the breeds sop(within reason) that it is not considered that...

Looking at the Privett hatchery price list for 2018 they have a few breeds listed as “exhibition type” chicks. What exactly does this mean? That the chicks come from show stock? Any help is appreciated!

I have a Easter Egger over a barred rock and a Dominique hen. Since the females are the only ones with the barred genes, would the chicks with the white dots on their heads be males and the rest are females?

    Judge my cochin!

Hey y’all! I picked up my first cochin a while ago and absolutely love her! The guy I bought her from said she looks like she would do well in a show. Well I have no idea. Color genetics? And comb identification!

Hi all! So I posted a few weeks back asking how to tell a pea comb from a single comb in young chicks and I think I figured it out! This would be a pea comb correct? As for color genetics, how does the silver gene work? I have 6 mixed chicks out of my own flock and can not remember which eggs...

    Blue or black maran?

I have this young cockerel BBS Maran. He is about 7 weeks old. At first I was pretty certain he was going to be black but as he grows he still has some grey feathering. Is this little guy blue or black? He hatched with both blue and splash marans from the same trio but I’m not sure what color...

Are Self blue and Lavender the same things?

Are self blue and lavender basically just two different names for the same color? And are there any breeds that have a self blue/lavender variety recognized by the APA? Somene asked what their bird was on Facebook and it was very obviously a blue Cochin. He insisted it was a black cochin that...

    Purebred Cochins?

I contacted some one local about their “Cochins” and they sent me these pictures. I’m in no way an expert but I do know Cochins aren’t crested. And I’ve never heard of any chicken getting a crest at 5 months old due to a “growing phase”. So I’m asking the experts. These are 100% not pure Cochins...
