8 Week old Lavender Ameraucana Roo or not?

I've been thinking this lavender/self-blue Ameraucana was a pullet for awhile, but now at about 7-8 weeks old, I'm thinking that maybe it's a cockerel. The upper part of the pea comb is more raised now and while not as pink as the one that I'm sure is a roo, it does look like it's getting...

Question about losing fertility and hatching different batches of eggs

I have 5 batches of eggs coming in the mail this week from different sellers on ebay. :clap All the auctions were to be shipped and received within a day or two of each other so that I could put them into the incubator at the same time. One guy sent eggs (Wyandotte) way earlier than the others...

Day 19 egg got stepped on.........

I have a broody hen who has been doing a wonderful job incubating 5 Ameraucana eggs. Today however, I believe another hen got into where she is incubating her eggs and one of the eggs got tromped on by either broody hen or the interloper :/ I've secured the hen and remaining eggs for sure now...

    Candling Duck Eggs? Opinions Needed

I candled these duck eggs at day 9 and not really sure what I'm looking at. I had problems with the temperature early on (was 4 degrees too low) and initially it looked like 7 of 9 eggs were forming arteries etc and 2 were infertile. I think a couple may have since died? The one that looks like...

Is this a Golden-laced Wyandotte pullet and why isn't there much lacing? :/

I'm newer to chickens and am wondering if my little Golden-laced Wyandotte is a pullet? She's about 8 weeks old. Also, all the photos I've seen of Golden-laced Wyandottes have so much more color or lacing than this one. She looks mostly black! Is this her final coloring?! If she looks like...

    Cockerel or bossy pullet?

I have six 5-6 week old chicks, all supposed to be pullets and am also a first time chicken owner (I've always had ducks). So not quite sure about chick behavior. One of the chicks is a Golden-laced Wyandotte and I have to say, she's a complete nutjob and sort of a jerk :barnie! Very...

    Congenital cataracts in Cayuga duckling

Hi all! I posted in another thread about adding 2 new Cayugas to 3 Welsh Harlequin ducklings of the same age, which went well, however, this thread is about one of the Cayuga ducklings. One of the Cayugas seemed less vigorous and is a bit smaller, but I figured she was just a little runty and...

Adding new ducklings of the same age to a different flock

I have 3 Welsh Harlequin ducklings that hatched a few days ago and I found a lady not far from me who has Cayuga ducklings that also hatched the same time and I'd really like to add a couple to the brooder the Welsh Harlequin ducklings are in. Do I need to keep them separated for any reason if...

Vitamins & Electrolytes for poultry water additive; enough niacin for ducks?

Hello! I recently received some new ducklings and have been reading everywhere that they need niacin. They're eating the non-medicated chick starter crumbles, which I add a bit of nutritional yeast to. I've also been adding this supplement I found for poultry that does have niacin in it, but...
