Hello. We had one of our hens pass today. We had been keeping an eye on her, not because she was acting I’ll or unusual, just that she laid all winter long (MN USA) and then stopped as soon as the other 5 hens started to lay again. Unfortunately, she’s not one that lets us get too near her so I...
I posted not long ago, here’s the link to that: Thread 'Cloudy Eye and Egg binding'
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/cloudy-eye-and-egg-binding.1506014/
Earlier this fall she was looking like she was having a weird molt. But she continues to have roughed up feathers, breakage...
One of our 9mo hens seems to have broken an egg inside. Yesterday she spent all day on the roost, standing, with her bottom tucked downwards. Under her was a glob that looked like egg whites & yolk, no obvious shell though. We haven’t noticed any previous issues with laying although all of our...
I debated between chicken behaviors and managing your flock, still not sure where this belongs!
I have a hen with broken and roughed up neck & head feathers. No skin injuries, just feathers. Her saddle feathers are also roughed up, but not as bad.
Two of my other hens also have roughed up...
Hello!
Both of my Salmon Faverolles do this. I have 12 chickens total, 2 are SF’s. I’ve had other chickens in the past (no SF) and have not seen this behavior in any of the chickens I’ve ever owned. Only the Faverolles. I have had other bearded breeds too that did not do this. What’s up?!
I have a pullet with droppy wings. They’ve been that way for a long time. They do not seem injured (never have) and she’s never been ill. The girls definitely pull their wings out to cool down, it’s been a warm June so far. But hers are constantly drooping unless she’s flapping or holding them...
I’ve got two PBBE’s. They’re approx 10 weeks old. One seems like a definite pullet, but the other has me confused. I cannot find online what a PBBE Roo looks like and I can’t find any PBBE in this coloring at all.
‘Her’ spur nubs are pointier and harder than her siblings and he comb, face, and...
One of my 3 week old chicks is very congested sounding and sneezing. I’m thinking it is due to poor ventilation. The chicks are in a small bathroom and I’ve had the window closed because it’s been cold old (below freezing at night). I changed out all of their pine shavings yesterday and today...
At first (from a couple feet away) it looked like she was missing the majority of her beak. Closer up, it doesn’t exactly look like that but it still looks like something happened to it or it’s growing weird. Any ideas?
sorry the head on isn’t super clear. The lighting is really low atm.
We have 5 one week old chicks and 7 two week old chicks. They’re all housed together and they all are active, eating, drinking, foraging, peeping and chirping, napping, sleeping at night. Two chicks though cry A LOT. If they’re not sleeping, they’re crying. They cry when they are in the middle...
I was worried this chick (black Sumatra) wasn’t doing well before because she seemed somewhat lethargic and was breathing very heavy. She’s small. The second smallest of all the chicks. Her and 4 others are approx 1 week old. The other 7 are approx two weeks. She pecks and pulls all of them, but...
Brought home 8 chicks, 7 hatched this week. The smallest (supposed to be a black Sumatra) did not look great when we got her home. She had been backed into a corner, standing completely erect (like a runner duck!) and seemed weak. We kept her separate for awhile and then I put her in with the...
I have a chicken that is basically bald on both side due to being attacked. She’s healing well but we are in MN and do not heat the coop. She’s been in our house while healing (we had 3 die and one other injured that’s been moved back into the coop) but I’d like to get her back outside now that...
We know the one is a Brahma. Thinking Jærhøns for one? And a whiting true blue or Andalusia - she’s super tiny though. They are new to us don’t seem to be comfortable with people much, so these are the best I could get for photos.
These babes are about 16-18 weeks old. I didn’t notice this on any of my hens so was curious. They have such long wing feathers. I believe they’re all coming out. Why are they so long and when their “adult” feathers grow in, Will they also be so long?
