I have attached 3 photos of my Sussex. They are the same age. To the best of my knowledge they are all hens, as the roosters which are the same are obviously roosters already. I have 5 hens of which 2 have beautiful red wattles, the other 3 don't. Only 2 are laying. What could the reason be...
I bought Black Astrolop day olds from a local breeder. I saw his breeding pairs and they were beautiful strong big birds. the hens had lovely red wattles and the roosters well developed combs and wattles. Unfortunately of the 6 I got I ended up with 2 hens. I kept them and 1 rooster. When they...
Please advise. If one has a broody hen, and eggs in an Incubator that are due to hatch shortly, could I place said eggs under her and let her incubate the last week, or will it mess with her instinct as it's not been long enough. I have successfully placed day old chicks with surrogate hens...
I know it's been asked a thousand times before, but each photo is different. I have 4 RIR. I think they may be crossed as there is some dark green luminescence at the tail area. They hatched on 13 July (I got given eggs). All along I've thought they were hens. As they my other roosters were...
I'm not rushing my 'farm chickens" but these will be my first incubated chicks to start laying. They are 18 weeks old. I am attaching only 3 photos. They are all the same age. My rooster is starting to pay attention to them and they are in and out the nesting boxes.
I'm still in my first few months of chickens and need advise please. I got fertile eggs from my sister - they were white sussex hen x white Sussex rooster. The parents were bought as "pure" bred apparently. I've attached a photo of the chicks. My question is: Why do some chicks have black on...
My White Sussex chicks have hatched, but I noticed one has a "bubble/growth" on its rear end. What could like be? The chick only hatched today and is acting normal. PS: purple is for identification purposes.
I'm sure you get tired of newbies, but this is the only place that has good advice. I have 3 questions. See photos.
1. What could this hen be? I do understand mixed breeding could have happened. I included a photo of her chicks.
2. The rooster has feathery legs (see photo). Do feathery legs...
So it's round 2 for me in my homemade cooler box incubator. It's day 19 and 'early bird' has arrived. I took a photo of its head just after it hatched as I never noticed this ''comb' on my chicks last time on hatching. Is this the 'egg tooth'?
I'm a Newby. I've learnt a lot from this group in the past 3 months, including not 'home breeding' ISA browns. But needless to say since I've made that error already, I'd like to confirm if my brood is mostly roosters? I'll attach photos.
