White Sussex rooster x hyline brown hen

I had brown Hylines a few years ago and currently have a Sussex hen. Both I found are lovely breeds and good egg layers. The resulting offspring from this cross should be good layers and nice yard birds.

This is Light Sussex? If so the chicks will not be sex-linked. You need a brown cock over Light Sussex female to get sex-linking.
Best,
Karen

Sex-links are when a given cross produces chicks that are distinct in color at hatch by sex of bird. A red sex link is a red bird over a silver base hen. The result is light colored males that can be easily determined at hatch. Black sex links or linking sex of bird by barred gene is using a barred or cuckoo hen. They only provide barring gene to male chicks so all chicks at hatch with spots on head are male. In a nutshell your able link the sex of bird by genetics. These markers are result of one time cross and wont reproduce in next generation. Though there are actual breeds that are sex links but that's not what we're talking about here.

Hyline does not have breeds. They produce hybrids for commercial/utility use. Their Brown Hen is production layer like ISA Brown and would assume also a sex link.
