I’m posting for a friend, please advise if you know what she should try!
We have a hen that is lethargic and is being picked on. We have her inside and she eats and drinks and poops fine. But outside she’s not moving around much. Do you have advice? We treated with giardia meds.
Thank you!
I’m wondering about the black one with white markings. We have thought pullet (hardly a colored comb at all), but she does have different feathers. Her mother looks very similar to her. She is next to our cockerel in some of the photos.
Grey is lavender Orpington /olive egger mix. This one has a black spot and a white spot of color leaking through near the tail.
Orange and silver are both dark brahama/olive egger mixes.
Are saddle feathers visible?
Chick 1: don’t know the breed, and from a different flock. Would love your thoughts on breed (I know it’s mixed) and gender.
Chicks 2 & 3: mother hen is dark brahama, rooster is olive egger (bcm/blue layer)
Chick 4: mother is lavender Orpington, olive egger rooster
Thank you!💕🐥
Each year I hatch in my classroom, and after last years’ hatch of 9 out of 9 all being boys I got a new incubator 😂 and had a 14/15 hatch rate. I kept 6, here they are at 4 weeks (adopted by a hen). Hoping for a little less crowing this year. The only one not from our flock is “C,” and I have no...
I posted a couple weeks ago and these were the "maybes" for pullets...I am not so sure anymore on the Black Copper Marans, though it does look different from the other BCMs who are definitely cockerels. The two possible pullets were thought to be pullets a couple weeks back. There is also a...
9 chicks hatched in my classroom incubator and have been raised by a sweet broody momma. They are looking boyish to me, but do you see any girls here as well?🤞🏻Thank you!
Our 9 chicks are a week old and jump up and peck at their mother's face and eyes. Today the mom had her eyes closed most of the time, but can open them when she chooses. Is there anything we can do to help the situation? She does not seem frustrated at all, but I feel bad for her. The chicks are...
We have 9 two-day old incubator chicks that we gave to our 6 yr old broody hen tonight. She took all 9 and is talking to them. One has its tail sticking out from under her wing. Can we go to bed and be hopeful for a pleasant night for them? Her box is not ground level so I blocked it so she can...
I think this is a cuckoo marans, not 100% sure but I did hatch one of their eggs and it's the only chick with a white dot. Does it look like a male or female white spot?
This guy hatched yesterday evening, and at the time of hatch had a large blob attached (see pic). Today he is still in the incubator so the others don't peck at him, its dried more, but looks like it has pink parts more than just yolk. He is eating and walking, but does not have the round...
I will have several chicks hatch this week in my classroom. Originally I thought they'd be brooder chicks, but I much prefer hens raising their own. Several days ago four of our hens went broody, and I have been letting them set on fake eggs. All four have been historically broody, but I haven't...
I have been using the same Nature Right 360 over three years for about 10 hatches. When I began I had excellent hatch rates (85-90%), and now am getting about 50% of the fertile eggs to hatch. I have used my eggs, but also bought fertile eggs from local farms to see if that made a difference and...
Dads could be Blue Copper Marans or f1 Olive egger (bcm/Americauna)...
Moms might be: blue copper marans, barred rock, blr wyandotte, Easter egger, black astrolorp, or Golden comet.
What do you think these four guys got? Also, are the puffy cheeks on 2 indicators of olive eggers?
This was an accidental hatch, so not what I would have selected for breeding. However, my daughter seems to love him but I'm not convinced he will be the nicest rooster. He is half blue copper Marans and half golden comet. His coloring is mostly white, feathered feet, and some light orange...
About half of our flock is older (1-4 years) and the rest are this spring's chicks. We will keep the pullets and need to decide how many cockerels we can keep. We currently only have one adult rooster and when all is said and done we should have 40 (maybe a couple more) hens. Thanks!
5 hens hatched a lot of eggs while we were out of town, shortly before our long-awaited order arrived. We now have 60 birds, too many for our two coops, 16x7 and 4x6. About 10 are cockerels who won't be staying. We get a couple weeks of real cold in Montana winters, but otherwise they free...
We had to wait longer than we wanted to move these chicks from the garage to the coop as we were waiting to evict a mama and her chicks and move them into the "big coop." The last two evenings when we walk in to the run to make sure they know where to go they all try to roost on us!😂 We have had...
