I chucked 6 eggs in the incubator 21 days ago.
Today we have 3 chicks fully hatched and 3 eggs that haven't even pipped yet.
I gave the 3 chicks to a broody hen who has enthusiastically accepted them. Would you give her the eggs too?
She's a tried and tested broody. Very docile and maternal.
I'm planning on hatching out some cream legbar and some copper marans in a few weeks.
I don't know which roo to keep for my mixed breed flock.
Is there any benefit to one over the other? I'd like nice colourful eggs from the hens down the generations but hopefully there will be a mix of CLB...
So we've had a beautiful big Buff Orpington roo as the king of our flock for the last 5 years. We hatched him and his sister from eggs, he was very closely bonded with her, but she dropped dead about a year ago.
Our roo hasn't crowed since. He was never the noisiest, but now he is totally...
I have a young hen, about one year old, who started staggering about a few weeks ago. Over that time I have given her vitamins, fed her eggs and bathed her in mite removal solution but she is still stumbling about. In some ways she seems happy enough, she's eating and drinking, and moving about...

Looking to start a self-sustaining flock with something that will reach table weight before it starts to crow.
Apologies, I know similar questions to this have been asked many times before.
I initially wanted to avoid cornish X as I want a dual purpose bird that will lay plenty of eggs and go broody. I wanted to use the cockerels for meat and keep the hens for eggs. It just feels more self sustaining...
I had 3 cochin bantys sitting on 4 eggs each, all in separate pens. They were due to start hatching on Sunday. I've given it to today and only 5/12 have hatched. I think my kids have been poking around with them and some have got chilled.
Anyway. I have all 5 chicks under 1 hen and I was...
So I know this is a bit random, but my husband works for a Canadian company and we've been given the opportunity to move over from the UK.
I'm pretty keen, but honestly Canada is so vast I don't know which locations we should start looking at. My husband works remotely so he can work anywhere...
My POL CLB has gone lame.
She has been sitting down for a few days now. Initially I thought she was about to start laying as she had tucked herself into a nest box, but she is totally lame.
Her pupils look normal and iris' are a normal colour. She has eaten some of the egg and crumb I have...
I had thought cockrel all along. His brother started crowing about a month ago and was rehomed. I was looking to rehome this one too and someone's just asked me how much I want for my hen. It's 11 weeks old and so far making no noise.
I have 8 cornish cross chicks. They're rescues and they're 1 week old. I don't plan on eating them (I'm a veggie).
Now I know that they're bred to grow like crazy and be huge quick and that this has consequences for their health.
How can I give them the longest life possible and of the best...
Yesterday I got 2 Indian runner ducks (2 females), one 8 wks old and one 20 wks old. I didn't go for newly hatched ducklings as I didn't want to end up with more than one drake.
Anyway. They are very nervous and are totally terrified of me. If I let them out they basically just run as fast as...
I asked around to see what was available in ducks around me and picked up 2 indian runner ducks today. On my way back I got a message that someone has 5 silver appleyard ducks and 1 drake for sale too.
If I'm honest SA would have been my preference, so I'm thinking maybe just get them too...
