I have never seen so many broody hens and I’m at a loss on what to do? Literally more than half my flock in both coops have been sitting. They act paralyzed when I take them out of the coop. I know how I handled this in the past, I always took them out and put them somewhere they can’t lay on...
When we went out to the coops this morning, we were surprised by baby chicks:loveOne of them was sadly not alive but the other seems to be thriving. Sneaky hen must’ve been hiding her eggs!:idunno I’ve owned chickens for quite some time and raised them all from a few days old but never hatched...
Help!! Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do? My hens eye had what appeared to be spit in it a few months ago. She has been eating and drinking as well as acting normal. It started to look like an abscess, I’ve been using the microbial vet RX and gave her the drops as well...
My friend brought me a chick today that her dog apparently left on the door step. Thankfully I have full faith that this sweet baby will recover just fine, lots of bald spots and a small scratch under the eye. But the shock has seem to wore off:celebrate anywho, I was thinking maybe mottled Java...
Ok so we have two coops that we built ourselves but the babies are growing fast and we need to buy a large coop, for about 20-30 chickens. I’ve been looking at the producers pride at tractor supply ...
Ok so we got 4 blue laced red Wyandotte’s a while back, they are now about 12 weeks. Somehow we ended up with what we think is another BLRW bantam. Must have been a mix up somewhere lol!! I posted some pictures below, any signs of cockerel?!? I’ve labeled pics by numbers instead of specific...
We swore we weren’t getting anymore chicks UNTIL I was able to find Sebrights locally:celebrate lol, I’ve been wanting to add some to our flock since we first got chickens!! I absolutely love the rare breeds :) Anywho, we ended up with 3 Sebrights, 2 silver laced Wyandotte’s, 2 Sicilian...
Ok so I’m still trying out if one of my silver laced polish pullets is a cockerel!! I call him “Fancy Boy” because he’s always been larger, even his Afro lol!! His feathering is also quite different so I assumed him to be cockerel... But today I was told by my neighbor that he is a pullet...
Alright guys!! I need your help lol I have a strange addiction to chickens (not what I need or want help with....because chickens are pretty awesome )... but I’m especially drawn to rare breeds....but once or twice we may have gotten more than intended and can’t remember what these two birds are...
Ok so I’m curious about different breeds of roosters and when they start crowing! I have a Mille fleur d’uccle that is fast maturing and started trying to crow this morning (so cute, never heard that before!!!) but I also have 3 silver laced polish outside that were supposedly pullets but we...
Ok guys, so we are pretty new to chickens... we have had them for about 4 months now however my mom has had a flock for about 10 years so I have some knowledge (way less than I thought lol) If you had to pick one thing for a fellow chicken owner to learn based off your experiences, what would...
We are going to attempt to clip our duck and the hens wings today, never done this before but we have watched a ton of you tube videos lol. Looking for advice on best practices, do’s and dont’s etc....
I’ve read a lot about breaking a brood but I’m still full of questions... when do you decide to do this? And of course why? Also best practices ? Thank you
We got the last 2 d’uccles that Rural King had a little while back, they were straight run but I always wanted some of the beautiful birds so we got them both! They had pasty butt pretty bad and we worried for a while about their health!! Happy to say these babies are flourishing like you...
It looks like my baby got trampled by the other chicks last night, her leg is dangling and clearly broken. We bathed her because she was covered in poop. Are there any options to help her? Can this heal?
Ok so these 2 blue andalusions were both supposed to be pullets... but I’m thinking that one is cockerel. What do y’all
Think?! They are approx 12 weeks now :)
Kind of hard to tell but my barred rock laid this egg, it’s light brown with dark brown speckles and little patches of blue all over it. Is this normal? In the picture it’s kind of hard to tell, but the patches of blue are pretty vivid And I’ve never noticed this before :)
Ok so we have 4 pullets to add to the main coop... they are about 9 weeks... we put a large crate Inside the coop almost 2 weeks ago so they are all familiar with each other. There are currently five girls in the main coop with no roo...I’m just wondering if I should let them out at night or...
