I recently lost a golden campine chick and it really upset me because I can't get another one easily and I'm a softie for animals. I understand that chicks are commonly lost. However, I want to make sure I am doing all I can and am properly prepared to handle sickness in the future...
Here is the info:
1) Speckled Sussex hen less than a week old
2) She stands around a lot - sleeps a lot - less active than the other chicks, looks like she's lagging in growth, not eating a lot, preens excessively when she is awake - it looks like her feathers are itchy to her or something...
I'm a first time chicken owner and received chicks last Thursday. One of my speckled sussex has started sleeping a lot and preening excessively. I haven't seen her eat much lately and she looks smaller than her sister speckled sussex. What do I do? Does she maybe have mites? I am feeding...
