I believe everyone here is less than two days old.

I'm definitely keeping Firefly and Galinda, but am trying to decide which of the blue chicks to keep. I'm hoping for something built similarly to their father. (Not positive it's him, but suspect it is based on their dark skin (only a couple of my hens have this)... I know that's not a lot to...
At the beginning of the week, I had eleven hens. They were raised from chicks here, kept in coop/run, and at some point late last summer, I opened the run gate and never closed it again. They’ve been living happily free range on my six acres since then.
Laying eggs everywhere.
Hiding then...
I have a sudden work trip, and will be gone for about three days. I have a few roommates who can help me with the animals, but am trying to make it as easy as possible on them (I have about four dozen birds, three sheep, three dogs, a pony...)
I have the hovabator below, with that turning tray...
After a few hatching problems with ducklings, I made a safety hole in the two eggs I have. Day #28 is tomorrow. They had both internally pipped. I have the humidity at 80% but am still concerned about shrink wrapping. Will my safety hole increase the chances of this? It's been about 24...
I had my first successful hatch! 4/4 eggs hatched. Two are from an Australorp hen, and two, I believe, are from my EEs.
Possible fathers are:
- Gray & White EE roo (with beard)
- Gray & Brown EE roo (with beard)
- Silkie/Cochin-X roo
- Phoenix roo
- Ayam Cermani roo
Curious about sex guesses...
Born yesterday, the only one. Wouldn’t eat. Drank. Felt “light.” Seemed perky enough. Took her a few extra days to hatch.
This has happened to me twice now. What am I doing wrong? The incubator had a hard time maintaining temperature this second time, too.
I'm so excited. We drove 9 hours each way to get her.... but she still needs a name, as she was called "Runtie" at the breeder, and while cute, it's not currently an accurate descriptor. :p "Fern," "Pepper," "Cinder," and "Ember" are all thoughts... I'm leaning towards Fern today...
I'm guessing this will be a cockerel, but I know Silkies are not an easy breed to sex. It's more a gut feeling. Anyway... here are the photos... what color will this Silkie be? Buff?
I've spent so long pouring over the advice and reviews on here and on Amazon, but at the end of the day I keep... not ordering. I keep hearing good things about the MagicFly (link) but then I'm so nervous to pick the wrong one.
I have a roo and a few cockerels, as well as at least 4-5 girls...
I've shown dogs (AKC & UKC) and horses but never birds. I'm interested in getting involved in this eventually but from what I've seen of the way these shows can be set up, it looks like it'd be easy for diseases to be transmitted.
What is your experience with this, and what do you do to lower...
