Any guesses for breed? I inherited her from my daughter, she's a TS special, 22 weeks, very large floppy comb, weird white ear patches, eats like a horse... I'm just curious because I'm not sure which eggs are hers (if any)... the other 3 hens she came with are easily identifiable. TIA!!!
A couple months back I posted about my new hen's eggs being broken by the other hens...her eggs were light blue and had a fairly decent shell. Over time, the shells became thinner, and I watched one break on it's way out. I've been giving her calcium citrate 630mg pretty much every day. She has...
2 months ago I introduced a new hen to my flock...so now I have 7 hens. After a week, the "new pecking order" was established, and they all get along just fine. My original 6 hens lay buff to medium brown eggs. My new hen lays blue eggs. Now that she's settled in and laying, I have only gotten 1...
So... I added a new 1 yr old hen to my flock (of 6) 1 & 2 yr old hens. I've been there, done that before with 16 week pullets and it took about 2 weeks each time to get all the girls settled down and a new pecking order established. Here's what's weird this time:

So here's my question...is this common and is she done laying already?!?
My RIR hen stopped laying pretty much 1 year to the date she started. She was my best egg-layer (compared to my Austrolorp and Sapphire Gem). Since I've only got the 3 hens, our breakfasts have gotten pretty slim.
Here's...
I have 3 hens (15mos old) with a DEFINITE pecking order. I'm introducing 3 new chicks(12 wks old). I've increased my coop size with ways to divide to allow for see/don't touch. I can block off 3 different areas to allow for both groups to move without contact.
One of my new chicks turns out to...
My chicks are about 3 weeks old and thriving. I check on them constantly as I pass by there box constantly. I just noticed (my fave) chick is keeping her tail tucked, her feathers fluffed, and her eyes closed. She's also just not acting as sociable as usual. I warmed a towel and held her...
I have 5 hens (1 Sapphire Gem, 1 Austrolorp, 1 Red Sex Link, and 2 RI Reds) and 1 Sapphire Gem Cockerel. All are the same age-23 weeks. None have laid the first egg. They've been on layer feed for 5 weeks. I keep them cooped all day until early evening, then let them out until dark. They coop...
Purchased at TS... my chicks are 10 weeks old. This is my first foray into the World of chickens, so...pardon my ignorance . I wanted 3/4 chickens, hedged my bets with 6 because it's my first time and all. Now I have 6 beautiful, healthy teenage chickens (2 Sapphire Gems, 2 RI Reds, 1 Red Sex...
