It's been a while since I've been on here, but I've just lost more than half my flock and I don't know why. This is my fifth year with chickens, but it's by far the most difficult.
I had 33 chicks (27 CX and six Leghorns) that will be four weeks old tomorrow. No other birds. My last adults were...
I have a flock of six Dark Brahma hens, one Leghorn hen, and one Dark Brahma Rooster. They had just turned six months old, when one of the Brahmas went broody.
We didn't think she had more than about three eggs under there, and didn't want to disturb her, so we made sure she had water and food...
I have a small flock of Brahmas. Currently six hens and two roos, but we might be swapping one of the hens for a third rooster (which I don't think is sustainable with that number of hens.) We also have a bunch of CX which are heading to freezer camp very soon, and a single Leghorn pullet...

I apologize for the noob question. I figured it had been asked a bunch of times, but I don't see it anywhere. I'm planning my layout for next year, and I'm trying to decide where my processing will take place.
Do I need to shield the processing from the other birds? I.e., after I process one...
I am just getting started building my first coop, in the northern Shenandoah Valley (Clarke County.) I will probably make lots of mistakes, but if more experienced folks want to help me spot mistakes before I make them, that would be fabulous.
The plan is for an 8x12 coop using the Woods...
Hello, all!
I've been lurking in BYC for a while, but this week, we finally moved from our covenant-bound neighborhood to a rural home in NW Virginia.
Current plans include building an 8'x12' Woods coop, using the deep litter method, and supplementing feed with mealworms, fodder, and possibly...
