Hello everyone
I was visiting my birds today to bring them their snacks and noticed my favorite boy, Bob, was acting a little unusual. He’s a 7 year old silkie.
He’s acting a bit lethargic / fatigued but he IS eating and ate some food when I offered him some of the snacks and is drinking. Tail...
Apparently I really cannot catch a break…
Two days ago, a bobcat got into my chicken coop. I lost two of my birds, and yesterday I noticed my tiny little bantam rooster was acting strangely.
One of his eyes was irritated, to which I’ve been treating - and he is keeping his head tucked close...
It just seems I can’t catch a break with these birds this last month.
Today I arrive to bring the chickens some Christmas snacks and come to find one of my hens is refusing to walk/stand and is walking on her hocks if she must move.
Background Information:
About 3 years old. She’s eating /...
I have a 2 year old rooster who’s been making this strange half-crowing noise for over a week or so now. I didn’t think much of it until this morning when he was very wetly sneezing.
I tried to listen for wheezing but didn’t hear much from him generally - he seems to gasp/wheeze after making...
This has been going on for a little under a week - I noticed his eye was irritated about 6 days ago but it’s progressively (and rather rapidly) gotten worse. Tonight it was swollen shut and I could barely get anything in.
I have been trying to routinely flush it out with saline and putting...
This little guy is now ~4 Months old.
I got him from an assorted bantam batch at Tractor Supply a while ago, he was pure white (last photo pictured) and has developed those orange-ish feathers as he’s grown.
We’ve been trying to figure out what kind of chicken he is for the longest time but...
So long story short-
As we move, We’ll be turning a pretty big shed into a temporary mini chicken-palace!
However, we’ll be a little bit away from the flock until we’re able to get a proper permanent coop set up with proper surveillance on them.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s such...
One of my roosters (a silkie) is approximately 7-6 years old
Recently over the last few months he’s been waking up with weak / shaky legs. He comes out of the coop, stumbles around or falls back on his haunches and just sits for a bit. After a few hours he’s fine and walking around like normal...
For context: I got a bunch of bantam chicks from tractor supply just two days ago, and upon getting home with them and putting them into their new space, I had noticed one of them appeared to be missing an eye (as in, it was solidly shut with scar tissue and swelling - no blood so this must’ve...
I have a feeling this might be valgus but I’m not entirely sure - thought to ask for second opinion since this appears to be a bit different than what I’ve experienced so far. (She’s about a week old)
Her one leg just turns out at an odd angle - we had tried splitting her legs which really...
Pretty self explanatory
I don’t think they’re dead (unless I’m wrong - but at least one of them is still moving, nor do either of them smell bad at all.)
BUT it’s currently day 17 and two of my eggs are looking rather funky compared to my other eggs. My other eggs are dark and have that well...
Currently working on hatching our next round of little babies - on day seven I noticed something a little odd when candling. I can definitely see the veins and the embryo is moving so I know it’s alive, but this odd saddled shape is throwing me for a loop.
Thought it could’ve been an oddly...
One of our friends hatched a few serama chicks just a day ago. One of them has spraddle leg, but she couldn’t keep the little one because of how many more they have on the way, so she gave the little one to us in hopes we could help her.
Legs are splinted and has reportedly been splinted during...
I’ve already posted another this once, but now that they’re older, we’re rather sure about everyone else except for our little Gracie still. We’re still trying to figure out what breed she is. For any context, we got her (and the others in her group) from Tractor Supply’s assorted bantams.
A few weeks ago (On April 24th) we bought four babies from Tractor Supply on their assorted bantams, and we’ve been taking it guesses on what they could be! However, we’re mostly unsure with the more silver chick. We’ve gone through a few other articles and threads with other similar questions...
Two of our hens, Pepper and Pip, are so ‘torn up’ from the boys mating too much with them. Now I know they can have favorites, but my mother doesn’t enjoy seeing the girls missing so many feathers on their backs, wings, and necks. I know the saddles exist, which would help with their backs, but...
My friend has a chicken in her yard, but everyone nearby doesn’t know her breed or hasn’t been able to figure it out quite yet.
Since I got an account here I offered to ask!
So, does anyone know the breed of this lovely hen?
