I would like to know what other people do that have button quail that live inside. I will just say this. Ground birds in the house is really a mess problem. The biggest issue is that these little guys love dirt baths and when you let them have one they throw that crap all over the place...
I have a very old pair of button quail (5 years). Willie Wayne (the hen) is really old and decrepit, and the rooster (Pi) will often really beat her down while mating. Personally, I think that they should be separated and let the hen live what little life she has left un-raped on a daily...
I sometimes like to hatch birds, my favorite being button quail. The last batch I hatched was way over distributed with roosters. Out of about 30 eggs that hatched, 20 of them were roosters. I won't go into the horrors these little bastards played with me and the hens, but this was a CF from...
Hatched a new set of about 30 button quail a couple of weeks ago and has been the strangest I have ever had. To begin with, I kept them in the brooder longer than I usually do (I usually have them outside and on a complete seed diet by the time the chicks are 3 weeks old).
These chicks were...
Mr. Wu is a Button Quail rooster I have for a pet/watchdog. I have had button quail as pets before, but never a rooster as a pet. Without going into all the weird things about him, there is one thing in his behavior that concerns me. This little guy is Preening (scratching) almost constantly...
I like my little quail, but these little egg laying machines do pose some issues when you have them as pets. It turns out that hens always become a problem when they start laying eggs. These little girls can become fierce when they are sitting on eggs (interestingly, as soon as the eggs hatch...
I have hatched a few sets of Button quail before, and they have all been rather lackadaisical with the hatching process. Generally, I have found that all that will hatch will do so in about an 8 - 9 hour time frame. Not like wild quail of any kind that generally all hatch in less than 2 hours...
I have a pair of button quail hens as pets. They live in my office. They were really cool...... until they started laying eggs.
At first it was fun and we found many things to make out of these delicious eggs. However, we noticed that the two hens were getting rather bitchy and mean (who...
I have a pair of button quail hens (pets). They started laying eggs and after awhile were not such fun anymore. Eventually I allowed the little hard heads to brood their eggs and it just will not end. They sit in their nests almost all day long and when they come out all they do is creech at...
I had a batch of button quail and kept two hens as pets. There are two problems I have run into.
The first is that button quail are egg laying machines and I would like to know if there is anyway to shut this off in my pet quail without harming them. I know that light is important (I assume...
Hi!
I have, on a good day 40 Valley Quail or on a bad day 30. I have no idea where the other 10 go on the bad days. It has been very entertaining hatching and raising these birds and certainly a learning experience.
Presently, they are 5 weeks old and the little turds scratch even more...
