    Mites?

    Recently I have noticed a ton of mites in my coop. They are extremely tinny, and I'm assuming they are mites. My birds seem to be doing fine, but I'm thinking I should get them out if possible. So, what's the best way to wipe them out? They are mostly on the walls/ceiling/and where the roost...

    Will hens go broody without a rooster

    I have 7 hens, all about 1 year old. they have never gone broody until yesterday. I just recently got a rooster (only about 4 months old) from a neighbor. Now, i have one hen wanting to sit. Just curious if hens will go broody without roosters, or if it's because i now have a rooster? thanks

    Sudden death of a hen?

    I went to gather eggs the other afternoon and let the chickens out, and found one of our hens dead under the roost, and i assume she died over night? She was acting fine the day before, showing NO signs of illness or weird behavior. I inspected the body before i moved it and didn't notice...

    How long can i go without collecting eggs? For example, if I go on vacation for a week, will the eggs still be okay edible after that period of time? thanks

    Coop update

    Worked on the coop a little this weekend, got it painted and did a few sides of hardware cloth. Still have to cut out the vents/windows and finish the wire.

    With some research and looking at others coops, my wife and i decided on this design ( based on LittleFeat's coop). My brother in law came over for the weekend to help with the construction because i'm not very knowledgeable on building. I got all the 2x4 for free and the roofing was left over...
