I have been wanting to add a male duck to my sweet bunch of ducks I keep on the pond.
I have 2 questions -
first - where would I find one. I've contacted many farms in my local area and no one has any. Everyone suggests getting some ducklings again but I really don't want to do that.
second -...
During the day these female peking and white crested boldly wake up the whole neighborhood with their demands through loud loud quacking. It's really cute and everyone loves them.
As the sun goes down, they crowd around my fence (they sleep out on the pond at night) and just make these whiney...
Do you think she was attacked or is this a sickness? I've put antibacterial ointment on it. Any other suggestions. She seems to be acting normal but it sure looks painful!
They are digging in my garden mulched with black mulch. Should I worry about poisoning.
My chemical engineering background tells me to chill out - the mulch is probably dyed with simply carbon which won't hurt them. What do you think?
I recently found out that I can feed chicken eggs to my ducks, but I've got all these duck eggs I don't know what to do with?
I've tried them myself and just don't care for the texture or taste. I have sold some to a local restaurant and I have a neighbor that sometimes takes them.
But many...
I'm noticing that my adult layer duck has a very defined long rigid bone that I can feel when I lift her up - it seems to run from her chest to her pelvis.
I've always noticed it slightly but lately it seems more pronounced. Is this normal?
What is your opinion might be wrong?
My adult female peking began limping 2 days ago.
I see no wound or obvious trauma. For the day before the limp I noticed she wasn't walking around as much as her companion - just staying put on the edge of the pond. (They spend their days on a big pond and...
I have 2 jumbo peking females I raised since a year ago and they are so sweet and happy! We are in a neighborhood with many ponds and my neighbors LOVE LOVE seeing them swim about all day! I keep them safe in a coop at night. I have often told myself I want them to have more sisters in case...
I was so surprised to start getting an egg each morning from my layer last August. I don't know why it surprised me. She is a layer duck.
I had ordered peking ducks and one of them had a pink beak and someone here told me she was probably not a peking but a layer.
I'm not a farmer or much...
My two peking this morning are acting unusual. Could it be they miss their brother who died yesterday?
Usually when I let them out of their duck house in the morning they happily follow me to the pond for a morning swim while I toss them floatable food and they slurp it up while chatting with...
I don't think my sick duck will live. I've been nursing him for 2 days and he's looking weaker. He used to eat on his own now I have to force his bill in the water and food to eat and even then he doesn't eat. He's still flopping around.
Still can't figure out what he is sick with. His...
For the past six weeks I moved my 3 peking from their contained environment in my fenced in backyard where they looked bored and hot and bored with their little pool... to the open pond just outside my backyard (it has about a dozen ⅓ acre lots around it). The neighbors love them, the ducks...
I guess I took for granted that the Purina Duck Feed Pellets, 40 lb. that I was getting at Tractor Supply would be kept in stock. I can't seem to find it anywhere and the shipping for such a heavy product is out the roof. Any alternative suggestions?
I love the Mazuri pellets you can feed...
Just saying up front - this isn't my idea. My 3 college boys LOVE LOVE our white ducks.
They want to bring them (safely in their wire crate) with them to an outdoor social distancing neighborhood fourth of July event, and they want to use children-safe non-toxic face paints to paint red and...
They must be happier living out on the pond because they seem to have bigger appetites.
Just a week ago when they were cooped up in my backyard, I found them neglecting their food. I was feeding them about 20 oz of duck food a day and they would ignore most of it while the flies buzzed around...
My three babies are swimming in the big pond now!!! They look so happy! But... one of them seems to struggle with swimming. Anyone ever had a duck do this before?
I love my ducks. They make me happy... but I get so sad when I step outside and see this... What can I do so that they are happily splashing in the water I have right there for them or keeping hydrated with the water I have for them or taking shade in the large shady area right there about 10...
So I'm needing to replace their duck food.
I recall when I was younger my dad always got cracked corn for the ducks.
I'm wondering if that would be a good thing to do. I find the duck food, when it gets wet, gets mushy and icky and attracts a ton of flies. I'm thinking cracked corn won't...
