I bought 6 colored layers off of Craigslist and one which I know now is a boy. It crows and tidbits for the ladies at just 4 weeks old. My 3 month old roosters
aren’t even crowing yet. My mind is blown.
I just recently bought 6 2 week old Easter Egger chicks on Craigslist. All are healthy except for one black chick. It sits ontop of the heat plate all puffed up with its eyes closed. It doesn’t join the other chicks while eating and drinking. What do I do?
My older Amberlink who is 3 or 4 years old now has been laying eggs with a thick ring around them. It almost looks like a calcium deposit. She isn;'t stressed and seem overall healthy. Is she laying these eggs due to her age?
This is a BlueBell Egger that is about 6-7 weeks old. Sometimes I look at it and think it might be a pullet but most of the times I think it’s a cockrell. Loves to sparr with my other cockrel.
I have 2 cockerels I need to get rid of and I would like to hatch more eggs in the future which will ultimately give me more roosters. What is the best way to get rid of them? I already have a rooster that I am keeping for my flock. I am not interested in using them for meat for myself. I would...
My 3 year old Amberlink has a wheeze while she breathes. Otherwise she seems completely healthy. Her egg whites do seem a bit water when cracked though. Any suggestions for what I can give her to improve her breathing?
I think these chicks are about 5 weeks now. Both Prairie Bluebell Easter Eggers. If both of my Eggers are boys I’m gonna be a little upset. Sorry about the quality these are screen shots from a video of them dust bathing.
Over the past 5ish days I’ve notice my chickens haven’t even touched their layer pellet. I blamed this on the flock block I had given them and assumed they were just eating that. Everything else is completely normal. They’re drinking, foraging, and lively. Today I went into the coop and they had...
Are auto-sexing chicks ever wrong? I have a cream legbar that was obviously a female as a baby but as she gets older her comb and waddles are developing quite fast. She also loves to chest bump and spar with the other chicks quite often.
I have a growing flock of 4 hens and a mature rooster. I had one rooster before this (died from predator) and I've always fed my flock an 16% layer pellet. I recently heard that layer pellet is no good for male birds but I have never seen any health issues in either of my roos. I supplement...
I’ve noticed my week old Prairie Bluebell Egger have some comb development after only a week. Is this normal? Or am I just paranoid about having roosters?
Hey everyone! I have a Blue Maran Splash rooster. If I were to theoretically breed him with a Prairie Bluebell Egger or a Cream Legbar would I create an Olive Egger? Thank you!!
Hey everyone! It's that time of the year again when we're all getting new chicks. I already have a rooster that I love dearly and I was looking for tips on sexing chicks. I have a Barred Rock, 2 Bluebell Eggers, and a Cream Legbar (all 1 week old). If anyone has special tips for helping me sex...
About a week ago I noticed my chicken, Scruffy, had a limp. I checked her out and found nothing wrong. No cuts, bumble foot, parasites, etc. I assumed it was a sprain. The next day she was dead lame limping around the yard, but still eating and drinking. Throughout the week she recovered. Some...
I bought my chickens from TSC in March. I found out later they mislabeled the chicks so I have no idea what breed they are. Theyre standard sized birds and lay medium-large brown eggs. Here’s a pic of my rooster. I can supply more pictures if needed. Thanks!
It’s starting to get cold where I live and I’m afraid my chickens are gonna get cold. I’ve started giving them more fatty treats every so often to try and bulk them up. I’ve also changed their bedding from pine shavings to hay to keep them warmer. On REALLY cold nights I have their old brooder...
I don’t plan on getting any more chicks until next year but I have a few questions on combining flocks. When is the proper age to merge them? Should I wait to merge them until they are all on the same feed? If not how to do make sure the chicks are on grower feed and my ladies are on layer feed...
