My 10yr old got several day old silkies for 4-H. They are now 16wks old. Out of the 8, there are 2 already crowing. We are confused though on one of them with a decent size crest. No crowing yet from it but was wondering if someone with more silkie knowledge could chime in. Ive included a...
I have 2 ameraucana hens that seem to do this weird "ghetto" neck roll on and off and sometimes stand up really straight. I came across this poop pile yesterday and was wondering if this looks like coccidosis poop. I included the neck roll video too
This cutie was hatched on April 20th from a batch of eggs my son was given and im stumped. Im leaning towards pullet but not certain and can't pinpoint breed. Any ideas
the dry skin and irritation is just strictly on the feet. No raised scales or dryness on the legs. Is this still considered leg mites or is it just dry skin from being picked on?
I know that silkies are the hardest to sex. These ones are 12wks old and I was just hoping someone could help me out with trying to determine cockerel or pullet. I have 8 total and have numbered the pictures. Im sorry they aren't the greatest.
so this bird was purchased with 4 other red sexlinks. I was under the impression that with these sex linked breeds, brown/red is hen and white is rooster. But this bird is definitely a rooster lol. Or am I wrong. If he is, what is he?
My son is 10 and in the 4-H and is starting a breeding program. With that being said our friend donated some fertilized eggs for him to get the experience and hatch.
He put them in the incubator on Tuesday morning. He candled about an hour ago out of curiosity. 1/2 of them looked empty and...
I was given 6 laying hens a month ago from a neighbor. Out of that bunch are 2 EE. She said they are about 1.5 yrs old. One of them has been laying thinner shelled eggs for the past 3wks and now has gotten to the point that they are rubber. The last 2 days I have found broken rubbery shells in...
I have this SLW....he/she is 6.5 wks old. Im so confused whether its a Cockrell or pullet. Its very mean/dominant towards my 4.5wk old silkies. It chases them, pecks them, keeps the 8 of them huddled tight in a corner and doesn't allow any of them near the food. Im 90% sure I'm going to rehome...
I have a mixed age flock. My cinnamon queens, SLW and BR are 6wks old, my SF and BO are 5wks old and my Silkies are 4wks old. Since I have put everyone outside and have recently taken the silkies out of their brooder, the older chicks are picking on the silkies. What should I do? I'm afraid that...
I have 2 silver laced wyandottes. They are 6wks old. To me they look different. 1 has a red comb and wattles and the other is darker if that makes sense. Ill post pictures of both to see what you experts think.
I'm new to the silkie breed and have recently added 8 to my flock. They are 3wks old. O was curious about the feathering on their feet. A few have tons of feathers while the others have barely any. Is this common? They are all the same age. Are heavy feet feathering a sign of cockrells? The...
I have 3 salmon faverolles that I got almost 4wks ago from my feed store. They are all supposed to be pullets. 1 is darker than the other 2 so I'm curious is if its because its from a hatchery and not a breeder?? Or is it showing Cockrell colors?
I'm a newbie when it comes to chickens. A family friend had to rehome her hens so I took them. I got them 2 days ago. They are all eating and drinking fine but today I notice this hen doing this. Can someone help me? She was like this for the 5 min I had been out and after that moved and went...
Today I took in 6 laying hens whose owner did not want anymore. I've owned a few BR before and none of mine ever had long tail feathers like these 2 have. Has anyone come across a BR that looks like this? Could she be something other that a BR?
