    Salpingitis

Just lost my 8 month old English Orp pullet Houdini. She seemed lethargic and wouldn't participate in treat time with her sisters. Decided to bring her inside to examine her, but she died in my arms before I could do anything. Had a necropsy performed on her at Clemson vet clinic, which is...

How to deal with a screamer

I have a 24 week old Blue Splash Maran that screams constantly all day long day. If I can't break her of this Royal PITA habit, I'll have to get rid of her. Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Fighting over nest boxes

I have a flock of 12, 22 week old hens, no roos that constantly fight over the nesting boxes. I have 4 main culprits, a Dominique, White Maran, Barred Rock, and a Blue Splash Maran. I have 5 nest boxes, all inside the coop. These four not only want a certain nest box, but they squawk and screem...

    Intestinal deposit on egg

My 21 week old White Cochin just started laying 2 weeks ago. She just laid this egg and did her usual egg laying song afterwards. When I went to get the egg, I saw this strange discharge on the end of the egg. This end also was lighter in color than the rest of the egg. I know the focus on these...

Hen Laying Song But NO Eggs

This morning I was awakened at 7:00 with a 10 minute long very loud egg laying song. Usually my girls will sing, until I go into the coop. When I did, there was no egg. I have 13 girls that turned 19 weeks old today. At least 4 of them are laying. Why all of the racket and no egg. They all...

I have 17 week old Buff Orpington hen that must have gotten in a fight, because she has an obvious wound to her beak and her right waddle. Late yesterday, she just walked around slowly and wouldn't eat. I couldn't see any obvious wounds, but this morning the wounds are obvious. They're all (14)...

    Can pullets crow??

I have a mixed flock of 14, 13 week old pullets. This morning, our favorite "Pooter" started crowing for the first time. It was as if she was saying "Alright it's breakfast time, come and feed us." I feed them mash in the morning and evening, and as soon as I put the dish in the coop, she...

Taj Mahal - First and last coup

I'm new to chickens and after much study, decided to build my own coop and covered run. I basically copied the design of the coop built by Pete on Youtube. The coop is 8x8, 7ft. tall on the front and 6 ft. tall at the back, 5 attached nest boxes that are 18" high at the front tapering to 15" at...

    Permethrin

I've read lots of recommendations about using permethrin for pests that attack chickens. I've also read lots of reviews about different permethrin products, some good, some not so good. I'd like to hear people's experiences with various brands. Thanks Ray

    Nesting Box Heighth.

Building my first coop, which has to be close to the ground. How high can I put the nesting box, and still make it accessible for the hens, so I don't break my back bending over to collect eggs and clean the box.
