    Boys or girls? 9wk old.

I have 9 wk old black sexlinks from TSC that are supposed to be girls. The faces make me think girl because there is little growth but some of the tail feathers are curved so I’m not really sure. Thoughts?

    Jersey Giant mix?

Just picked up this guy and he is very handsome. Previous owner bought from tractor supply as a Jersey Giant. He looks like a mix to me. What do you think? He is much bigger then our red sexlink hens.

    Will hens accept a rooster?

We are picking up a rooster for our hens. Will they accept him in since it’s a boy or will there be pecking order fights? Trying to gauge if I need to separate him off for awhile or not.

Anyone raise their chickens to produce low PUFA eggs?

Wanted to see if anyone else was trying or able to raise their chickens to be low PUFA (polyunsaturated fat). We have just started with 6 red sexlinks (23wks) and 6 black sexlinks (4wks). The older girls have still not laid eggs, though they look healthy and seem to be getting enough food with...

Question for those that raise mealworms.

We are getting everything we need together to start a mealworm farm. My husband just bought a 50lb bag of wheat bran for substrate and food. He forgot that it was supposed to be organic. Will the non organic wheat bran kill the mealworms if it was sprayed with pesticides? Also, do I need to bake...

    Are the last 2 stuck?

16 ducklings have hatched without problem except 1 that was stuck in small egg and pipped wrong side. 2 have only done initial pip and wondering if they are shrunk wrapped. They were eggs on the sides of incubator so possibly had more of a draft as I pulled others out. But humidity has been very...

    Let’s talk safety holes.

I’ve been hatching ducklings all summer and it seems I’ve lost my first one during hatch. It internal pipped only. I think it was due to humidity being too high as I had guinea eggs in this time that hatched earlier then the ducklings. Do you guys put safety holes in the eggs? Pros/cons? I think...

How closely related can breeding birds be for healthy chicks?

This is my first year breeding and selling ducks. I have 8 hens and 2 drakes. We hatched out some ducklings to add to our flock, just sexed them and we have 9 girls. My initial plan was to add these girls and 1 boy to the flock bringing my numbers to 17 hens, 3 drakes. I know some breeders keep...
