Hi all
I’m so sad as one of my CLB has gone blind. She is healthy looking - poop normal eating and drinking when I put her in front of food and water.
She’s had antibiotics and eye drops and two weeks in the ‘hospital’ but no improvement in eye sight.
I’ve now put her back with the flock as...
Hi
I have a two year old cream legbar who seems to have lost her sight in the last couple of weeks. I have attached photos of her eyes as I don’t think (and hope) it is Mareks. The iris has no grey colour to it.
She is healthy otherwise not displaying the usual hunched tail down look of a...
Hi all
I have a large coop for 50 birds but there are also extra roosts I’ve put up higher than the ones it came with. I have 37 chucks and so they aren’t all that close when roosting for the night. Will the ones on their own on the roost be warm enough without a friend to snuggle up to?
Hi I got this girl as a chick and was told it could be a black leghorn but chap wasn’t sure. She is very friendly and calm so don’t think leghorn. She has yellow legs and black and white/grey feathers. She is about 4 months old but would love to know her breed. Anyone any ideas please? ❤️
Hi
I wanted to post this to give some people a bit of hope if your broody let’s her eggs go cold.
I have a Silkie cross Orpington called Haha, who is usually a great mama but this time I let her sit next to another broody— a Brahma, as all was peaceful and they had a nice big area to share...
Hi all
I ended up with this one white leghorn chick and I’ve not had leghorns until now so not sure if this is a boy or a girl.
basing it on my other birds the feathers make me think it is a cockerel sadly. But wanted to check with folks with more knowledge in this breed please
It’s about 3...
Hi
These are both wheaten Marans same age - 4weeks. Does the one with black feathers look like a boy? He is bigger and has more of a comb but it’s the colour that makes me think he’s a boy?
hi
I have two Wheaten Marans and as I’ve not raised this colour before I am wondering if I have a boy - with black feathers? and a girl, brown colouring? The black is bigger and did have a cock attitude but seems less so now
Hi please see attached pictures of my 8 week old white leghorn. Boy or girl? I can’t get any closer, I took these with zoom on! Mama broody is still ferocious and the chick keeps away from me because of mama
Hi I have attached some photos of my four week old leghorn. I think it’s a pullet? Only got one so am I that lucky?
Doesn’t look to have the Roo feathers but I know it’s hard to tell on photos of white chicks.
does have the beginnings of fluff on the neck? 🤔
Hi
I have some Maran eggs in my incubator due on the 17th June so no longer being turned from 14th June. I will then be giving these to a broody who is currently sat on fake eggs.
NowI have some Australorp eggs I want to put in the incubator tonight 8th June and so they will still need turning...
Hi all
So I have two broody Australorps sat together in nest boxes and I decided to leave them to it and see what happened - it’s been harder than the usual moving to broody coops and nursery area!
one who’s chicks are due tomorrow gets off the eggs several times a day even now when she should...
Hi
I have a Barnevelder that went broody. I let her sit on a couple of eggs and she hatched one chick. She wasn’t great and would get off the eggs for too long some days but persisted with the broody behaviour
Today she hatched said chick and then promptly attacked it! Luckily I had another...
Hi so I thought I would be able to tell the sex of these chicks when hatched as they have different markings on head and girls have eyeliner. However I’m still not sure? I only have two and I think one is definitely a girl but the other is not typically marked to be a boy I don’t think? Both...
Hi all
So I have four chicks under my broody hen, hatched yesterday and today. When I had chicks in a brooder I left a low light on all night as I read they shouldn’t go all night without food and water. So my question is this- after tonight when they are still ok with the yolk sac should I...
Hi all
I have a broody hen who is due to hatch on the 19th April
Today another has gone broody, which is great but I am wondering if I can put them in together when hatched.
my set up is a small chick secure run within a two acre orchard that the flock free ranges in. In the chick run are two...
Hi
I have a broody on 8 eggs but only 4 have chicks in them. I plan to sneak some more day olds under her as her clutch starts to hatch. Should I leave all eight eggs in so she accepts the ones I put under her or am I over estimating her ability to count. As in I only had four eggs so where have...
Hi I can see the white spot and possibly one looks to have a bullseye effect? Not sure if there will be a very obvious difference and I’m imagining this one. So picture one I’m thinking could be fertile?
so difficult to take photo out of reflective light sorry. Any advice appreciated 🥚🥚
Hi all
I am about to separate 5 Australorp hens and the Australorp rooster. I want some pure breed eggs to hatch and also I think he is treading all the hens apart from the Australorps - I’ve never seen him tread one of them but have seen him tread all the others. I also think it will be a good...
Hi
So I got myself two cross Orpington’s yesterday to hopefully go broody and hatch chicks.
original plan is to keep them in quarantine run for a week - came from a lovely homestead with lots of healthy birds
Then two weeks in a coop and run within my main big enclosure so my established...
