Breed of our Rooster Draco Malfoy

Hi All, I posted Draco when he was still a juvenile. Most said Egger mix. He came from Hoover’s and could have been part of a rare breed or colored egg layer mix. His colors and patterns have evolved since I last posted. We have since hatched our own eggs, so I’m more curious what breed he...

    Gender of our Polish

I suspect this is a roo- which would be the third from our order of 15 pullets from Hoover’s. He/ she just looks so different from our adult silver laced Polish. Pointier head feathers. Although I keep hearing that messy head feathers indicate Polish Roos and most of our Polish hens have wild/...

    Breed of our Handsome Roo?

We got an assortment of rare breeds and colored eggs layers from Hoover’s- I’m assuming he’s some sort of mixed colored egg layer breed, but curious if anyone knows?

    First Eggs!

Do you think all of these eggs could have come from the same chicken? I REALLY don’t think we missed an egg on 9/22, but it is possible. This is between 17-18 weeks for our flock, but the only chicken I expected to lay this early is our black Australorp. Our other breeds are Delware, Easter...

    Two Remaining Mystery Birds

I’m posting a lot lately, but I finally got some better pictures and have hit roadblocks on my own research. These two are still stumping me... I got a Rare Choice Sexed Mix from Hoover Hatchery, but they don’t seem to “match” any of the breeds. 1) Cooper: Clean yellow feet, straight...

    Easter Eggers

These girls came from Hoover Hatchery’s Rare Choice Mix, and based on their cheeks as chicks, and greenish legs, I think they are all Easter Eggers. I have better pictures of their combs if that helps too. Hoover’s lists: Sapphire Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger, Starlight Green Egger...

    Breed and Gender Help

Hi, I would love some guidance/ opinions on 4 of my chicks. They are btwn 8-9 weeks and came from Hoover (via TS) Rare Choice sexed. Each week I suspect a different one from our 10 to be a rooster. 1,3,4- Are they all Black Copper Marans? Or could any be midnight majesty Marans? 2- I...

    Stumped on Breed

Hi- this is one of our mysteries from Hoover’s Hatchery rare choice mix. She is 5 weeks and has almost no tail feathers (all of the other 9 chickens are grown in). She is a pale gray, looks like a straight comb but has yellow feet which ruled out a lot of the breeds. Her name is Cooper :)

    Bare Feathers

Is this something I should be concerned about or is it just a natural phase of the new feathers coming in? None of the other chicks look this bare. Her back looked like this when we first got her, but now I feel like it’s more pronounced and in more areas. Thank you for your help!

    Breed/ Gender

Hoping you can help to identify this chick. It seems different from the rest that we got in a rare choice assortment from Hoover’s. More curious and bold than the others from day 1, and a thinner/ smaller head. She is the only black chicken without feathered feet that we got, and she has...

Hi, I’m Lauren, I am a mother of 3 who is also now a Mom to 10 week old chicks. We ordered a choice rare assortment from Hoover’s Hatchery via Tractor Supply and are really loving looking after them and watching them grow. A friend who has had a much larger flock for a few years is helping to...

    Chick Breed Help

Novice here! I ordered a Choice Rare selection from Hoover’s Hatchery and am having so much fun identifying the breeds! They guarantee 3 different breeds, so I can’t help but lump them by color. Do these all look like the same breed or a mix? Thanks for your help!
