    Double yokers

Hi I have a couple of Appleyards that have just started laying eggs. I’ve noticed one is laying double yokers and has been from the start! It’s been about 2 weeks now, one a day, and we are still getting the double yoke. Is this delight likely to stay for her egg laying Life?

    Do I need a rooster?

Hi do I need a rooster for better egg production. I have two that are very aggressive towards my ducks and am looking to put them in the pot as they are of age. Should I keep one or is there no need for them?

    Hatching

I have a ducklingbthat has hatch 24 hours before the others should I be taking it out of the incubator now or wait for 48hours? It looks tired and don’t want to stress it out? I’ve heard the can live 48hours after hatching? I just don’t want it to dehydrate and die of thirst?

    Foaming eye?!

Hi I have a duck with a funny eye. I grabbed her today to have a closer look and her eye is foaming completely covering the eye. The flesh looks a yellowish crusty colour. Is there anything I can do or should do? Our drake is a little rough and I think he has pecked her eye in his pursuit of...

I’ve had nothing until day 28 when 1 has started pipping. Day 29 and the pipping area has increased. How long should it take...

    Incubating eggs, one is warmer???

I’ve started incubating 3 Aylesbury duck eggs. I left them in there for 10 days before cooling and spraying once a day. Ive been using a laser thermometer to check the temp of the eggs before turning the incubator back on. I’ve notice that one egg is always around 1 degree C warmer than the...

When to start incubation? Are the chicken old enough?

Hi my chickens (Light Sussex and White Leghorns) are 10 weeks old. Our plan is to raise their off spring through incubation for meat. When are my flock going to be sexually viable for egg incubation and should we be incubating the eggs or should we wait for our birds to be say a year old before...

    Roosters or Hens?

Hi I’m puzzled as to wheather my Sussex are roosters or hens? I’ve had them from day olds and all of them in the photos are meant to be Light Sussex. After some lovely comments from a previous thread, I’ve established the red crested fellows are in fact Leghorn roosters and the pure whites are...

    What breed are we?

Hi there! I’m in a bit of a pickle over what chicken breed I have? The story goes we bought 12 day old Light Sussex with no idea or the gender. We hoped to have a few hens for eggs and any males we intended to either give away or eat. My chicks are now 10 weeks old. Now I’m no expert but the...
