Since they are impossible to get still enough for a photo, here are the ones I could snap quickly. Anyone see any cockerels? These are my first Isbar and those are giving me quite the challenge!
2 years old and a wonderful protector. We lost 21 hens in 2018 before we got Gandalf.
Since we’ve had him, we’ve never lost a hen to a hawk attack again.
He’s huge, great with kids, cars, goats, cats, dogs, and all other humans.
That being said, he would need large hens because he is so large...
We had been giving the flock locally milled GMO free/antibiotic free feed but with the pandemic they had cut back supply and anyways, I got some at TSC instead.
As I was dumping the Bag of food container into the Container, I saw a few chunks fall in the bottom but at the time (yesterday) it was...
I’ve clicked everywhere in my menu up top, read the guides listed here in the pinned memo and tried using the search feature but I’m stuck!
where can I view my “Watched” threads and check up on them? I’m using an iPhone 11
thank you!
We had 2 eggs that hatched while we weren’t watching and my mixed flock chick looks like this:
looks like an Isbar color and shape but I know it’s mixed flock and saw it hatch.
these two are throwing us off, that we didn’t see hatch
One of them is Isbar, one is mixed flock. Which is which?
Impulsively bought these from TSC labeled as “Wyandotte Pullets” but I’d love to know the specific type of Wyandotte they are
we have Gold Laced, Silver Laced, and Red Blue Laced Wyandottes in the current flock but these are totally different so I had to have them :)
They are 11 days old for...
Maybe a crazy conspiracy theory, but every chick I’ve ever had (either hatched here or shipped) that tends to lie on its back has always died less than a week old.
is this just a symptom of deeper issues?
seriously never had a chicken (out of hundreds) that’s ever thrived as a back sleeper.
This RBLW had a really rough entrance into the world at 3am. It’s by far the smallest and having trouble with the left leg. During the assisted hatch, the leg was pinned against the chick and the right leg was out and kicking/pushing. Also, there was a tight band of membrane across the back of...
I had to assist 6 hatches last night and 4 of the chicks required quite a bit of coconut oil to keep the membrane moist.
Today they are slicked with oil still and I’m not sure if the down being fluffy would help with regulating temperature.
All 4 are small and weak so I don’t want to harm them...
Today is 22 for this hatch and I had a few eggs that had not pipped so I candles first, saw movement so I decided to intervene.
First scored the top where the air cell was, removed all of the hard shell from all three, found the beak and poked a small hole for them to breathe. Applied coconut...
After a HORRIBLE hatch with shipped eggs (1 out of 25) I have a much better feeling this time around with the eggs that have been shipped.
Set eggs:
4 RBLW (3 with wobbly air cells at Day 18)
9 Isbar (2 with wobbly air cells and one with no air cell visible)
4 Blue Barnevelder
1 Ayam Cemani...

Today is day 18 and one of my shipped eggs still has the air cell at the wrong end. How should I set this egg for lockdown?
Help! ASAP please :)
Day 10 air cell
Day 18, it’s moved to the other end of the shell and has a wonky shape
Bought straight run in 2018 as a Lavender Orpington and I’ve always thought that’s what he was and all of a sudden someone on BYC said he’s an Isabel Orpington and so now I’m curious what everyone thinks of him. Here are a crap ton of pictures I took yesterday from all different angles
he is...

I’m not sure where else to post this but since there are so many different people and knowledge base here, I thought I’d ask for advice here. If this isn’t allowed, please delete.
so last night we were sitting around at a socially distant fire outdoors and my drunk neighbor stumbles over and...
Actually now that I think about it, owls eat heads off as well. . . So wasteful.
ANYWHO - a little over a week ago we had a nighttime attack, 3 chicks were maimed enough to be culled, 2 went completely missing and we found feathers about 50 yards away, near the base of the tree and 2...
