Hey. Does anyone use sand in their run? I currently use hardwood wood chips in the run and use ground sanitising powder as well as rake it about once a week. The run is covered. How easy is it to clean sand?
Hello. I really need some help as I have a poorly chicken and can’t figure out what is wrong with her. She is an exchequer leghorn who hasn’t been feeling herself for around 3/4 weeks. First I thought it might be the temperate outside. We are in the UK and the weather has been really up and down...
So I keep hearing the egg song from one of our girls, not sure who yet. I’ve heard this a few mornings in a row but no eggs? The one time I opened the nest box and our rooster was in there. What does this mean?
So I’ll be worming my chickens tomorrow. I use flubendazole. I normally use it by mixing the correct dosage with their feed however I was wondering if this is possible by mixing it in their water or will it not work? Thanks!
After investigating our roo today I think he has scaly mite. This is all new to us so any advice would be great. I have already applied Vaseline after taking the photos.
Hello everyone. This morning when I went down to our chickens I noticed our pekin cockerels yellow legs didn’t look so yellow and seemed very dry and scaly. All the other hens seem fine and legs look normal. I’m wondering is this scaly leg mite? This is all new to me as we’ve been fine before...
Some of our chickens never came into lay during spring/summer due to being young. Now that the days are shorter the ones that did aren’t laying anymore. However just wanted to know if the ones that never laid will lay as normal in the near future? Thanks!
So we haven’t had our chickens for too long, two of them started laying and stopped which I assume is due to shorter days and moulting. However we haven’t had a first egg from the other ladies, what do I do? At this point I’m paranoid they won’t ever lay
What is everyone’s thoughts on dried mealworms? I keep reading bad things about them however I’m interested in everyone’s experience with feeding them and what are the best brands? Thank you:)
Hi everyone. We are moving our chickens to a new enclosure where they will have a lot more space but this is going to be put on soil. The enclosure does have a roof and one wall which will be covered however I still get worried that rain will get in there. What sort of stuff is best on soil so...
I have posted about this before but it seems like the situation isn’t improving unless I’m paranoid. We have a pekin cockerel who’s been with us for nearly 2 weeks and he is the cutest but turning out to be a mean little guy. He is chasing two of our hens and grabbing them by their feathers even...
Hi everyone! Could someone please recommend some good chicken coops within the UK. It needs to be a coop alone and not with a run as it will go in a big enclosure, we currently have 6 chickens but looking to make it 8! Thank you:)
Hi everyone. We have recently got a new beautiful pekin bantam rooster. Two of our hens are laying so he seems to be getting on with them however the others seem very scared of him and sort of avoid him if he’s in the way. From what I have seen he hasn’t been mean to them apart from the normal...
Hey! So we have finally had our first tiny egg from our sablepoot bantam. I am now wondering wether we should change to layer feed even though the other hens are not yet laying!
Hi we have an exchequer leghorn hen who’s comb and wattle is quite pale or should I say more orange colour. I am wondering is it because she has not developed yet as she is 5 months old or because of the really hot weather we have been having? She is healthy otherwise and is acting completely normal
Hi everyone. We are planning on moving our chickens on our grassy bit of the garden. I know the grass will be gone in no time. I have heard that sand is convenient in the run. Would this work on soil once there is no grass left? Thank you
Good morning everyone. I had a question of how often do you guys clean your chicken coops? I change the bedding once a week and also wash down the wood chips. Also pick poo up in their coop throughout the week.
Hi guys, just looking for some advice. Our current coop is on pavement so we’re not really worried about predators but we want to swap it for a big enclosure with a coop inside which will have to go on the grass but I was thinking of putting paving slabs around it, would this make it safe or...
Does anyone know where to find a well priced hen house/chicken coop? I am looking to purchase a big chicken run so need a small coop to go inside of it, sort of like a hut! Somewhere in the UK please:)
