I have a two week Cayuga who started showing signs of niacin deficiency yesterday. His legs are pointed inwards and he keeps rocking back and forth. Is this irreversible? I am getting niacin today and will administer it ASAP. I'll post pics in a second.
My coop arrangement fell through and now all the birds I bought from the hatchery and all the birds I hatched out have to go. This sucks. I became so attached to them but my parents won't let me have them here at my house.
I have some ducklings losing down on their bellies and they look a little red. I woke up this morning and their bedding was soaked, so I quick changed it out. Could it be from the pine shavings being too wet? What could cause this?
I just hatched out some Olive Eggers. Most are black and yellow, but this one seems like he may be a blue. I’m not sure what breeds were used. What color will he grow up to be?
I have an egg hatching with clear foam coming out. I attached some pics. This is fairly new. It pipped earlier in the day and was fine until now. What do I do?
My eggs are in lockdown right now and tomorrow will be day 20. The incubator I'm using is a cheap Chinese incubator to hatch them out (they were previously kept at 50-55% humidity and the air cells look fine) that does hold temp well, but it has two giant sections for water. Even filling one of...
This is my first time having chicks. One has been weak since I got them yesterday and is getting worse. I assume pasty butt but can’t get clump of feces out from blocking it. It was wet but dried off with hairdryer. Very vocal. Just separated it from the rest
I ordered some chicks from Murray McMurray. The sent quite a few extras, which I'm assuming are either Cornish Crosses or White Leghorns. They did send one other that I'm trying to figure out what it is. It doesn't have feathers on its feet either. Any help would be appreciated! Here are some pics:
Just locked down my incubator for the first time. Humidity was wayyyy to high (90%) and there was no way to lower it, so I emptied it and threw in two sponges. They do have a slightly strange smell, so I'm a little worried, but they were still moving when I candled them. They're set to hatch...
Hello! I have posted with quite a few problems recently because apparently I am destined to make every mistake possible, so I present yet another. I have some duck eggs I have had to hand turn. I thought I was doing well, but when I candle the dark part with the yolk is stuck to one side and...
Hello! I just started raising chickens and have made every mistake in the book. I recently found myself ordering and ordering and ordering hatching eggs until I had to buy two and borrow another from a friend. In one incubator, I noticed some eggs started having a fishy smell. I looked it up and...
I had posted previously about whether my day old baby chicks would be ok in the coop after a few days, but my friend insisted on putting them out in a few days instead of a few weeks under a brooder. The forecast says highs in the low 80's/lows in the low 60's. I have a few questions:
1. Should...
My friend is keeping my new day old birds (some chicks and ducklings) for me and caring for them. He wants to put them outside after several days of heat (actually he wanted to put them straight outside but I convinced him to keep them inside for a few days). The weather for the first week looks...
New to raising chickens and just killed 20 of them because it was too hot. I feel absolutely awful. Anyone else ever done this? Just looking to feel a little better about it I guess.
Hello! I am new to this and just started incubating. I ordered several sets of hatching eggs off of EBay and a few had excessive amounts of dirt and poo on them. I know now I should have thrown them out, but they have been sitting in the incubator with the other eggs for a few days. Is it a lost...
