5 baby chicks that are 5 weeks old, 5 roosters and 25 hens that are a year old.
Various breeds but all amazing birds that get along well
I live in Fayetteville North Carolina
Not sure the best price to ask but I do need to sell them, short on cash and could use some help to get thru this bad time
I wanted to share something I found online and replicated as well as added on my own idea.
If you have a way to connect a gutter to your coop, have it run off into a rain barrel (store bought it DIY).
DIY was easy enough, if you google how to make your own, you’ll be flooded with them.
I then...
So my rooster has this black spot on his wattle. When I managed to get him it seems to open up, like his wattle has a second wattle growth? It’s weird. But the inside was black and brownish. I don’t know, the photos can do better than I at describing haha.
It’s weird it’s like a pocket on his...
So the birds have a gravity feeder and eat from there. However when I come outside and sit with them, I’ll occasionally grab a handful of their feed and toss it on the ground.
The entire flock goes crazy and is scrambling for it like they’re all starved.
Is this normal lol?
All birds are 17-20 weeks
So I’m not sure if her comb is normal or not.
Compared to the rest of my flock here is the only one that’s laid over like this.
Combs honestly confuse me.
I have some straight high and proud on my roosters, other roosters of mine have short warty looking combs and the same goes for my hens...
Is it safe/ok?
I have two bantam hens and I just saw one of my Full size Roos mount it. It looked super odd and really weird and difficult. I was afraid the hen would get broke.
Wisdom/insights please?
Hi there, I’m located near Fort Bragg N.C. and I’m looking for some Ayam Cermani chicks. Does anyone have a few they are willing to part with? I’m ok with roosters and hens.
Thank you :)
Anyone have suggestions for minor improvements or major?
They’ve lived in here for a few months now and the two oldest just laid their first eggs!
I’ve added a poop hammock and raised their roost bars
I’ve also added a roost bar for their second floor nesting boxes
Will this work to catch poop as they roost at night so I don’t have to replace the floor bedding as often?
I’m open to suggestions if any.
Please don’t suggest stuff that will require money out of pocket. I’m on a budget so I’m trying the tarp :)
What breed is the rooster in the photo by himself? He has some resemblance to my EE who is in the photo with a hen but he also resembles the silver Wyandotte. Sooo... I’m not certain.
Say I want to let nature work and have some hens hatch their eggs.
How will they know if they can be hatched or not? I have roosters. I’m just not sure if a hen that goes broody will know if that particular egg is fertilized it just a dud?
So the 4 chicks (2 BJG and 2 australorps) are free in the run during the day and still get pecked at randomly (eating out of the main feeder, being somewhere a bigger bird wants to be etc...) which I assume is them being taught their order in the pecking chart. Which makes sense since I have 38...
80% of the day my birds have great shade from the trees surrounding their run and coop.
The other 20% they are in direct sunlight. In the winter that won’t be so bad because it will be chilly (no snow). Some nights get to below freezing but most the days are just cold (N.C.)
However I’d like to...
I’m integrating 4 chicks (7weeks old) with 19-20 week birds. The integration is going well. I have sperate food for the chicks in their little safe haven the big birds can not get, which they eat. However I noticed today that one of the chicks was going up to the main feeder for the big birds...
Trying to see if this is normal or not. I have some Asian blacks and some silver gem hens that have a darker tint to their combs and wattles. Most my boys and girls have bright red or a dull red coloring.
from my understanding the brighter they are the closer they are to full maturity and...
Thought I’d share a rare photographic moment where all 6 of my Roos were near each other eating and pruning
They hang out together fairly often in twos or threes, sometimes four but it’s difficult to get all 6 like this and be there for it haha
I have 4 chicks about 7 weeks old (2 giants and 2 australorps) my big birds are 35 in total (7 boys rest girls) and are all 5-6 months roughly and non laying yet.
Anyways the chicks have been living with the big birds and sleeping with them, all while enclosed safely in their own area to prevent...
So couple behaviors I don’t get.
1. I just saw this today. One of my birds squawked a bit and when I look she was backing up, with her head down really close to the ground and her but way up in the air. She backed up about 4-6 feet before it stopped.
2. I don’t have a ton of cover in my chicken...
So I’d like to let my birds hatch some eggs into baby chicks naturally, I have 7 roosters and 28 ladies. When they start laying eggs, how will I know which are fertilized and which aren’t? I want to eat some too lol
Any advice?
Or is it just luck of the draw with it?
